Hi Christy,

I'm not an expert but there are several different reasons for

relapse. For me personally it was severe arthritis in the TMJs which

caused bone resorption. Others have relapsed because they had their

surgery done when they were too young and their jaws continued to

grow afterwards. I'm sure there are other reasons as well but those

seem to be some of the common ones.

Hi Christy,

Now you could call my need for another sugery a 'relapse' but I

think it was more a conservative lower that caused the problem, I

should have had upper and lower as my bite in its new position was

actually really open...I digress.

I had my screws unscrew etc.

However when comparing x-rays its all pretty stable.

I'd say I've not really heard of a relapse with a reduction, more

the advancements. I think cause the advance splits the bone so its

a little 'weaker' also depending on the cause of it. Alot of long

term relapses can also be related to bone loss - more of the tooth

decay, loosing teeth varieties.

I wouldn't worry however keep in mind the body is forever growing

and changing. A relapse could happen to anyone, even people

with 'perfect' bites now - case in point look what happens to

people's jaws in dentures ;)
