Guest guest
Congratulations on both, the splint and the new house! Enjoy both your new bite and new location. One warning: watch out for those cheeks. You may still be somewhat numb. I did some serious damage to the little guys when relearning to chew. Guest guest
You'll get there, Pete... Meantime, for the Superfest... Could you blend up some tacos and salsa, or refried beans with cheese and salsa (and broth if needed) and take your own thermos of goodies? You might wind up the envy of the party -- a beer in one hand (isn't that an essential part of the festival? I'm not a sports fan) and your nibbles in a thermos in the other! Or maybe you could mix the beer in with the other -- what do I know? Cammie > Thats awesome Alix. congrats. I wish I was this week but > unfortuantly not till next Friday. Guest guest
Alix & Pete & everybody - I got my splint out today too. It is exciting just being able to start the next phase of recovery. It's still hard for me to believe that the surgery is finally behind me. That's great that your bite is perfect, Alix. What an exciting day for you between the splint & the new house! I'm jealous, though, because my bite is only halfway there. About half my teeth touch right now (which is better than only 2 teeth which is what I started with). Although I kind of expected things not to be perfect when getting the splint out just from reading this board, it's still a little disappointing. My doctor is not disappointed or anything. He said the rest of the teeth should come together pretty quickly. The ortho didn't even put rubber bands on yet - he wants to my teeth to " settle in " for a couple weeks. I just hope they don't get worse. I guess I'm still skeptical that this whole thing is really going to work, but I'm not giving up or anything. It feels really weird. I actually feel like I have a splint in, because the roof of my mouth is all numb, which makes it feel like a splint is up there (but a much smaller one & one I can clean!). It is great to be able to talk normal again, and it was lots more fun to read books tonight to my little boys. My ears are real stopped up still, and seems to have gotten worse today (maybe because I had to open my mouth so much). I don't know if this is a normal part of all this or not. I do feel much better in general this week than I have since before surgery (6 weeks ago). I think this is the first week I can say I feel good (even though I'm not normal yet!) My doctor said to continue my soft diet for another week, and then start chewing as I feel up to it & test the waters (but avoid the harder stuff like pork chops & pizza). I'm too sore right now to think about trying much of anything anyway. I think I won't be able to eat much at super bowl party either, but that's ok with me. Pete - hang in there - it won't be much longer for you & you'll be busting that blender before you know it! > Hey all, funny but it just seems like yesterday I was typing all my > fears about going into this surgery. Guest guest
YAY ALIX!!!! Woo Hoo! HAPPY DAY!!! I'm so happy happy happy for you! I read your email and it made me smile. Doesn't it seem like our surgery was so long ago? i remember right after surgery we had emailed about how the days were crawling by and now it's almost 7 weeks!!!! That first day, I had to keep telling myself, i just need to make it through 3 days, then things would get better. That all seems like a distant memory. We've been through quite a lot! So you have no food restrictions? how exciting! what is the first thing you ate? when i can eat anything i want my friends and i are going out for a huge dinner celebration. i'm thinking something along the lines of a big crusty piece of pizza! YUM! can't wait! enjoy the new house and splint-less mouth! aileen --- alix alixkmpsy@...> wrote: --------------------------------- Hey all, funny but it just seems like yesterday I was typing all my fears about going into this surgery. Guest guest
Boy Alix...do I know THAT feeling!! Believe it or not, it's been 7 weeks since I got my splint out and I'm still grinning in the mirror. I can't even put my car in " drive " without looking at my teeth first. I've NEVER had straight teeth before and I'm just in awe of the work my OS and Ortho have done...of course, so are they. LOL! So many, many congratulations to you...this is just another BIG step closer to " freedom " ! Any mention on when you will be released from your " chains " completely? My ortho says I should be free by this summer, but I'm hoping to be done a lot sooner than that...oooh, that reminds me...better go put my bands back in. :-} CONGRATULATIONS also on the new house. I know that feeling too. We had our house built in Florida (I'm from California) and closed on 28 May 2002 - I'm still grinning about that, too. For some reason, over 18 months later, the elation of owning my own home still has not worn off. :-) My Fweetie and I like to just sit in the front room and grin at each other. LOL! Smooches splint out!! Hey all, funny but it just seems like yesterday I was typing all my fears about going into this surgery. And today was such a wonderful day! I arrived at my os's office READY to have this thing out! Everyone was so supportive and happy for me at the office.
