Guest guest
Hi, You won't have fun with it, but I imagine your doc will take good care of you. Are they gonna do it in an office procedure? Or will you go into the hospital. That's quite a whack of work, depending on how complicated the impactions are. But at least you'll get it all over with at once. I would recommend that you treat yourself to a ZipNSqueeze jaw wrap. I found mine to be quite wonderful for jaw surgery, and several friends have found them helpful with wisdom tooth extractions. If you'll use it faithfully with ice, as your surgeon tells you, you'll find that it can really help with swelling. Ask your doc about the time you'll need to recover. I'd think five days would be plenty, unless you develop complications, but then I don't know how simple or complex the impactions make the job. I have had friends who came back to work after a couple of days -- but we don't dig ditches around here. We do work intensely and, we hope, carefully, but it's sedentary. Good wishes to you. And just think, two weeks from now it will be behind you. Cammie > Hello, > I have now had my braces on for a little over a year, they were put > on then taken off due to an allergy to nickel. Guest guest
My extractions are happening in his office. He did the 4 premolars in his office as well! I've heard a lot about the zipnsqueeze, exactly what is it? I've been putting this whole procedure off for a long time now, but I need to get it done sonner or later. I guess I'll keep being scared until I actually walk in there! Thanks for the advice!! > > Hello, > > I have now had my braces on for a little over a year, they were put > > on then taken off due to an allergy to nickel. I have now had both upper and lower put back on. I had my 4 premolars taken out before getting braces to make room. It is now time for my wisdom teeth to come out. It is scheduled for next Wednesday (25th). All 4 are impacted. Is it harder to deal with this when you have braces? What about cleaning? This is the final step before my upper & lower jaw surgery which is scheduled for November. I am starting to get scared of the procedure now, it's all happening so fast. I've scheduled 5 days off work to heal, is that enough? How mcuh will I need after the surgery? HELP!?!? Any advice?
Guest guest
Hi! I had my wisdom teeth out when I had braces on as well, so I know what you're going through! My top ones were still " way up there " and my bottoms were in, but a total mess. I was put out for the whole procedure, so I can't really tell you how it will be in the office, but I can give you some tips for afterwards! I found that the lowers were the ones that causes me the discomfort afterwards. TAKE YOUR PAIN MEDICATION and don't push it! Allow yourself a couple days of just couch rest! With the braces, clean them as usual, and the only thing is to watch out for the stitches! Also, soft, blended foods for the first couple of days and keep ice on it. Be prepared for some swelling too which will go down soon enough. It's really not that bad!! Mashed potatoes are wonderful and just don't eat anything with little " chunks " in it (like rice or ground beef) as that can get stuck in the holes and that's not pleasant! Grab some movies, make a lot of ice, and you'll be back at it in no time! > > > Hello, > > > I have now had my braces on for a little over a year, they were > put > > > on then taken off due to an allergy to nickel. Guest guest
And how are you managing the braces with that nickel sensitivity? Just curious... Guest guest
Go to the ZNS site and have a look. The bags are sort of like zip- lock bags, and come with a tube implanted in them, as well as a clip to hold them shut. The jaw wrap is particularly nice because it's soft jersey stretchy stuff, with pockets to hold those polar ice/heat packs (meaning you can use them with hot or cold. They don't drip, and they fasten securely at the top, with Velcro. One jaw wrap will hold ice or heat packs on both sides, without your having to sit there and hold 'em up. It's also good for headaches, and will be helpful when you are post op for jaw surgery, as well. I think you'd do well to have someone with you, taking care of you for at least a day or two after the wizzies come out. You're probably not gonna feel like doing much of anything for at least a day or two. Including cooking, cleaning up after yourself, etc. (You might also wanna invest in a stick blender, which was an invaluable gadget for me. Give me a pyrex measuring cup, a stick blender and a microwave, and I can prepare anybody a nice soupy hot meal out of most anything! Cammie > My extractions are happening in his office. Guest guest
Hi, I had the metal braces taken out a few months ago, and they were replaced with ceramic (the clear ones!). I am adapting to these ones much better. Not to mention they're pretty clear, so you can only see the wire running thru them. My orthodontist did the switch at no additional cost, thank God, cuz I can't afford anything more than I can afford. THANKS EVERYONE FOR ALL THE SUPPORT! By the way i am in Toronto, my oral surgeon is Dr. Claudio Tocchio. He's one of the top surgeons in the province. His office is at LEslie and Sheppard. Again, he definitely comes at a steep cost!! > > Hello, > > I have now had my braces on for a little over a year, they were put > > on then taken off due to an allergy to nickel. Guest guest
Yeah well now that you say its doctor t... then he is worth the high price! Both fiddlesticks and I got him. I had a different one for lowers but went for second opinion about getting the uppers done and went to 'the best' my dentist calls him 'the machine' Shiloh > > > Hello, > > > I have now had my braces on for a little over a year, they were put > > > on then taken off due to an allergy to nickel.
