Guest guest
Some of you may have already read this same post on the Orthognathic Surgery Site 2. If so, please bear with me. I am a 46 year old female who had both upper and lower jaw advancement due to my having sleep apnea. My upper jaw was advanced 9mm and my lower jaw was advanced 7mm. I did not need a genioplasty. I am one of the rare patients who did not need to wear braces prior to having had surgery. I consulted my son's orthodontist who sent me to an oral surgeon for evaluation. The orthodontist told me that I was his only patient in over 20 years that didn't need pre-surgery orthodontic treatment! This may have had something to do with the fact that I wore braces when I was a kid. Arch bars were placed on my teeth at the gum line so that the surgeons had something to grab onto and maneuver during surgery and they also have little hooks that hold my elastic bands. These arch bars are probably responsible for the majority of my pain, I believe. They are due to come off on April 6th. For those of you who have already had their arch bars removed, did you have more pain and bleeding afterward? How long should I expect to have any " rebound " pain? I'd like to know what I am in for. I believe that I am one of the few people on this site that have experienced more than their fair share of pain. I had always heard that these surgeries aren't particularly painful. Maybe my age has something to do with it... Thanks for any and all help! Janie K.
