I heard that under some circumstances surgery can be performed for an

overbite without the need for the person to wear braces first? Has

anyone experienced this or knows if its true?

Thanks

Kate :-)

Hi Kate,

That might be true but I don't know. The braces are used to align

the teeth into the position they need to be in after the jaw is

moved. If your teeth are already pretty straight you may not need

the braces for very long before the surgery. The vast majority of

people here have had the braces first. Your ortho and your surgeon

are the best ones to decide what needs to be done in your case.
