Jill:

From the west coast sending you good vibrations, swinging my

granddaugher (don't worry she likes it), livestock (we have a small

ranch), Dancing to the beat, and already said a prayer that Dr.

Gagner's hands will be guided and your body will heal quickly.

Can't wait for your uneventful story of how well you are doing, and

how many incredible pounds you have lost.

Lynn:)

You will more then likely show up at the hospital about 2 hours

before your surgery, so they can get you ready. Meaning, they will

give you a gown to wear, and start an IV (so they can keep you

hydrated during surgery, and after as you will not be drinking

anything for approx 12hours)

Once you are put to sleep it will only feel like seconds before you

wake up. After my surgery (upper and lower) I felt swollen, but no

pain initally. I could also feel my gums bleed a bit. But they give

you a suction so you can clear that out. My bleeding slowed down

fairy quick, and stopped completly about 12 hours after surgery. You

may or may not have a splint. If you do, try not to panic when you

wake up. I was not really bothered by mine at all. Some people find

it a little unpleasant, as your tounge will rub it, therfore sores

can develop. You will also wake up with elastics in your mouth (or

wired). This helps to stabalize your jaw for healing purposes.

I was only on strong pain medication for a week. I have been taking

Extra strength tylenol since then, with effect. Tylenol is your best

choice for bone pain. Most effective. They (nurses) gave me gravol

which controlled my nausea.

You may also feel dizzy from many things. Like medications, bending

over (try to squat), dehydration (make sure you drink plenty of

liquid when you get home). The dizziness will gradually go away.

The hardest thing that I have had to deal with is the diet. I am on a

soft food diet for 5 weeks, because of the splint. (3 weeks to go) It

is hard to watch other people eat your favorite food. The trick to

that is remembering it is only temporary. Also try putting a little

extra effort into the meals that you can have, with ingrediants that

you like:)

Good luck with your surgery. Anxious to hear how it all went:)
