Hi Joanne,

I had two orthognathic surgeries as well but mine was planned that

way from the beginning because of the large movements involved

(lower jaw brought 17 mm forward and upper jaw moved 5 mm). The

second surgery (upper jaw) was 2 1/2 months after the first and was

much easier to deal with. I knew what to expect and I was still on

an all liquid diet so I didn't have to change anything in that

regard.

Having just the lower should be a little easier than having both

done. Good luck with the surgery and I wish you an even easier

recovery this time.

4 weeks after having upper and lower done, I had a second surgery to

redo the lower because it wasn't closing right. The doctor should

have went back into surgery immediately after the 1st because he

detected a problem in post op, but figured it would eventually come

together right, though it didn't.

The second surgery was much easier. I only stayed overnight, and I

really didn't even need to stay that long. I was up and about

immediatly (antsy wanting to bite into something). It did delay me

going back to college a couple of weeks (all my careful scheduling

ended up being for nothing). Within 2 weeks I began lifting weights

again. Its been 9 weeks since the 2nd surgery and I've been eating

what I want for the past 2 weeks and have been eating a more

advanced diets for about 4 weeks. I was worried that I might have

to go in for a 3rd surgery, but my bite settled down nicely after

about 4 weeks and now the orthodontist is doing the touch up work.

My chin feels a lot less numb, though its hard to tell how much

feeling has come back. So far so good.
