Hi Stacey,

It was about a week and a half that my face looked more " normal "

(its a new normal now!!). Each day I see more improvement...mainly

the swelling going down. I'm at 19 days postop now and my lips

still stay parted (I can close them, but it is a conscious effort).

I get unbanded in 4 days.

Hi Stacey

Glad to hear you're on the other side now. I am a month away from

upper and lower so avidly reading any posts that come through

particularly as I'm in the UK too.

Did you come home the day after the op? I'm expected to go in on a

Tuesday, op on Wednesday then home on Thursday. My ortho even

suggested that I might go and see him (over an hours drive away) on

Thursday! I think I've scotched that one as my previous experience

of general anaesthetics makes me think I'll be in no condition to go

anywhere! I would certainly feel happier (and safer) going home on

the Friday!

Also, are you banded when you come out of surgery? I thought your

ortho had to put them on quite soon after but I won't be able to see

anyone for a week. I have visions of my jaw flapping in the wind

with no support!

As you can see, I've started to worry about little things already as

the time gets closer. Lets hope I'm not a nervous wreck by the day!

Best wishes

Hi Stacey,

I'm also from the UK. Had my surgery on Oct 1st Last year. I had

upper surgery and the swelling and bruising subsided after about

three weeks. The swelling went down first then the bruises went all

kind of shades and finally disappeared. I looked 'normal' after a

month although my energy wasn't great.

Good luck with your recovery, take it easy on yourself and take your

time going back to work. I stayed off for 8 weeks, even though it was

boring at times i'm glad i took the time to heal.

There is a nice drink called Nestle 'Build up' you should be able to

get it in a pharmacy. I also had Cadbury's hot chocolate, nice fresh

soups, homemade smoothies, yoghurts and when i was really fed up i

would melt Cadbury's chocolate buttons onto my tongue with a cup of

tea haha!!

Hot baths are great, they will help with the swelling and congestion,

if you have any. Good luck and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Honey, let your doc worry about whether your jaw will " flop in the

wind. " I had no bands, no wires (except for those holding my nasty

and soon to be nastier splint in place) when I left the hospital, and

I did fine. But my surgeon was the one in charge of whether to wire,

band, etc.

Have you told your doc you'd rather stay in hospital through Friday?

If not, why not ask? All he or she can do is to say no.

Try not to be frightened. Honestly, the fear was way worse than the

actuality for me. I did not, however, have work on the upper.

--- Hi there sue,

I was in hospital for just two days. originally

they informed me it would be for a week but everything went smoothly

so i was allowed out on the friday afternoon after goin in on the

wedneday morning. The doctor said i would feel ten times betta at

home and i did.

The doctor came and banded me the day after the surgery. I have to go

and see my ortho on thursday and he is going to remove these and put

on some ones which i will then be able to change which is quite scary.

all in all im doin ok. the swellin has started to go down and i have

stopped dribblin

any more questions feel free 2 ask.

Thanks Cammie

I'm trying not to worry unduly. Thanks to this group I have a fair

idea of what to expect. Those nagging doubts however, do creep in

every once in a while!!!

I'm convinced they won't send me out the day after - I think it was

just the surgeon being over optimistic. My last surgeon told me 2/3

days for a gynae op and I was in 5!

Best wishes
