Guest guest
Hi. I am new to this group but have been reading alot of the posts to learn more information about orthognathic surgery. This is my 5th time having braces on. I recently got them put back on in October 2003. Was told that braces never worked because of my jaws and that I will need upper and lower jaw surgery probably around fall/winter of 2004. My surgeon will be Dr. Stark of land Oral Surgery Associates. Has anybody used him? I am awaiting to hear from him regarding insurance paying for this surgery. I have been waiting for a reply since October. Does anyone have Unicare NCPPO insurance and if so did they cover this type of surgery? I am scared that they won't cover this or something and my bite is even worse now since having the braces, only the very sides of a few teeth touch at all when I bite down and I've been chewing like sideways. My kids now ask me why do I chew funny. I never thought about it before but when I look in the mirror while eating I am chewing sideways like. I am very scared about having this surgery done but also can't wait to have normal eating function and to be able to actually keep my lips closed and breathe through my nose. I've always had to breathe through my mouth until recently in December I had a septoplasty done and now I can breathe through my nose but it is hard to do when my mouth is open all the time since I can't normally close my mouth due to my jaw problem. I had a really hard time recovering from the septoplasty surgery so I totally can't imagine having this jaw surgery.
