Read some back posts on this site, and on oss2.

For most people, no. The surgery is not terribly painful. Far more

likely is numbness. It can be deucedly uncomfortable, especially if

you're having upper as well as lower, but the discomfort generally

goes away and/or diminishes markedly in a few weeks.

Many people, me included, believe that the anticipation and fear are

the worst part of the whole thing, and that the surgery itself, as

well as the recovery, is often much less difficult than anticipate.

If you must be wired shut for a couple of months, that of course is a

challenge. And the emotional trip can be a rocky one -- this surgery

affects how you talk, how you look, how you feel, how you eat, just

about everything, in short. It takes some patience, and some

persistence. But it can be done. Many have done it, and most have

come out " on the other side " with greatly improved function and

appearance.

Good wishes to you.
