I've had braces before, so my teeth don't have to move much at all,

and my braces are going to be on for 18 months, and cost $5250. You

are going to be in braces for 3 years, and I assume they'll spread

that cost across the 3 years interest free. Also, as far as surgery

goes, $2000 for surgical treatment sounds really cheap also! All in

all, I don't think you are paying too much at all!

Carp, honey, you're getting off light.

My ortho was about $5,500, of which my insurance paid $1,000. And it

took almost exactly 20 months.

My surgery (lower jaw only) was about $6,000 to surgeons, $10,000 to

hospital, and I don't even know what to the anesthesiologist. Those

are all U.S. dollars, too.

For both jaws, I've heard figures as high as $40,000 U.S. and more...

Be grateful for what you have going, especially if you're pleased

with your treatment and your eventual results!

All that said, if you're wondering why it costs so much, nothing

wrong with asking your ortho or surgeon, whichever you're more

comfortable with, to explain why it's so expensive. I would not do it

in such a way as to question whether they give good value -- just

ask 'em to explain why it's so costly. (I know my surgeon told me

that an insurance company in a neighboring state wants to pay him

less than $2,000 for the surgery. " I can't do it for that, " he said.)

I'm being charged $5,500 for braces and my out of pocket expense for

the surgery will be $3,500. I wish I was paying $2,000 instead!

Hi,

I also am in Canada and can tell you that my orthodontist is

charging me $6800.00 CAD. I started treatment 3 years ago so that

figure might have gone up towards $7000.00 CAD by now.

My OS is charging me $4000.00 CAD for his services that are not

covered by Alberta Health Care.

Your figures sound right on to me.

I don't know where you live and the cost of living where you reside.

Living in New York to me those prices seem pretty resonable, even

cheap. Your first priority should be getting excellent orthodontic

care. Yours is not a simple case because you need an orthodontist who

is going line the teeth up correctly before and after surgery. I am

not saying not to compare prices but it is really important that you

go to a Dr.that has a good reputation and will do the job well.

I know I am overpaying for my orthodontist and my surgeon who will

move the lower foward a couple of millimeter, however going to the

best Drs was very important to me.. My three years of braces is

costing me $10, 000 dollars. My surgery is going to cost $7,000. My

insurance company is only covering $4,500 the rest has to come from

me. I am not wealthy I am a single teacher with pleny of expenses and

debts.

You know what I have no regrets on choosing these Drs. Call me a

primadona but I know I am getting the best possible care. My

orthodontist has a reputation as being one the very best in NYC. In

the two and half years I have had braces he has done an amazing job.

My oral surgeon has a great reputation as well. Both of these Drs.

are wonderful to deal with. It is important to have confidence in

your Dr. and know that he is going to the job right. A friend of mine

had some joint surgery in the jaw she didnt have it broken but it was

considered surgery. The doctor didnt manipulate and place the joint

correctly and she suffered horrible TMJ problems for over a year.

Every Dr. has told her it was a bothced job.

I have taught in middle school and high school and have seem many of

my students with braces and I have seen the finished products when

they were done. On occasion I have seen some louzy jobs, where there

teeth are still crooked or not space correctly or they have a still

have an overbite.

Bottom line is sometimes you pay for what you get. You have to go to

these really expensive Drs like me but I just dont think it is wise

to skimp on price when it comes to quality of work.

Braces is one best things you can do for yourself. My bite used to be

soo bad that I was biting on only two teeth and had severe TMJ

problems. After two and half year of braces my bite is so much

better. Braces tranformed my appearance. I didnt know my teeth cd be

corrected to this extent without surgery. I look and feel amazingly

better. Eventhough I still need surgery to totally correct the bite,

braces is the start of a great transformation in the quality of your

life.

Good Luck, with who ever you choose. Definitely go for the braces no

matter who you go to you will be so glad you did.

Keep smiling,
