Guest guest
I've been a lurker on this board for the last couple of months and this is my first of many postings I'm sure as my surgery date is Wednesday Feb 18th. I just want to thank everyone for their postings as it has been a great help for me in prepare for my surgery. I'm having both the upper and lower jaw done and to tell you the turth I'm a bit nervous about the whole thing. Tomorrow I'm having my work up appointment and I'm wondering if anyone can give me some advise as to what kind of questions I should be asking... I'm just afraid I might miss something important. My main concern is the recovery process. What else should I ask the surgeon? I always hate it when asked if I have an questions and I draw a complete blank. Any help you can give would be appreciate it. Thanks! Take care, Tommy
Guest guest
Look on Fiddlesticks geocities site. There are some FAQs there... At least, you wanna know ahead of time whether he expects to wire you shut, band you, or what... whether you'll have a splint, and your dietary restrictions... Guest guest
Tommy, All the best for your coming surgery, I had the upper and lower jaw done....separately. I am 12 days post op on the lower jaw. I was scared of vomiting, while being banded shut for the first 24 hours, with no water. Because of my fear I was given a gastric tube into my stomach...bad move, it irritated the back of my throat and made me gag at times. I couldn't have been sick anyway, there was nothing in my stomach and I had every anti nausea drug going...so try to avoid a gastric tube if you are going to go through what I went through....Also stock up on soups etc food for the blender...get protein drinks etc, it really does help you to get back on your feet. Keep us posted. > I've been a lurker on this board for the last couple of months and > this is my first of many postings I'm sure as my surgery date is > Wednesday Feb 18th. Guest guest
If it's any consolation to you, I think most docs do use a gastric tube to remove any blood you may have swallowed. But I was fortunate in that mine was put in after and removed before I lost/regained consciousness. I was certainly sore from that and the breathing tube, though.
