Guest guest
Hey everyone, I just found this site and it is awesome to find that there are so many people who are or have gone through what I am getting ready to go through. I just had braces put on March 1st (of course, I had them when I was 12 as well) and we are anticipating surgery for sometime in June or July. I have read a lot of your posts, and I was wondering if there is anyone who has had just their lower jaw moved back? I have a class 3 underbite, and they are only moving my bottom jaw back. Part of me is really excited, because I hate looking at my face and am really excited to see change. In fact, my boyfriend is doing a video documentary for me on the before, during and after process. It is pretty cool. Anyways, the other part of me is really scared because I know it is a pretty big procedure and everybody's comments about the long lasting numbness kind of scares me. My other concern is the weight loss. I am 5'10 " 135 lbs, and whenever I tell anybody that I will have my mouth wired shut for 6 weeks, they freak out and tell me I better start fattening up. I think I will be fine though. If anyone is out there who could share their experiences and thoughts, that would be great! Thanks.

Thanks. > > Dear , Lucky you, You must pretty straight teeth if u just got braces and they will be able to do the surgery by June or July. I had braces for 2 and half years before I had the surgery. I am not sure what a class 3 underbite is. How much movement is necessary. My doctor told me that the less movement you have the quicker the healing is. I also had lower jaw surgery six wks ago, I had my lower moved foward instead of back. As far as numbness. My Dr told me in 25 years he has never had a patient that had permanent numbness from this procedure. Although it is a risk. I still have very little numbness on my right side under my lip going down to the bottom of my chin. It really gets less and less every day. It really isnt that bothersome because it is not really like a novacaine numbness. It dosent effect ur tongue and the only reason ur probably even notice it is because it will be doing all kinds of nerve regeneration stuff while ur healing. Tingling itching pulsating. I only kind of notice it when I am lying in bed. You may not even have any numbness. My left side was not effected at all. One of the best parts of the surgery is the cosmetic improvement. I can tell you having ur jaw in right place makes a huge difference in how good you look. If u decide to do the surgery you will probably love the way it looks. Before the surgery I alway used to move my jaw foward to see how will look. The actual surgery came out looking much better than any of my presurgery attempts in the mirror. Best wishes,
