Guest guest
Hi there: It's been almost 3 weeks since I ditched my bands and liquid-only diet and began eating mushy/soft food. I was told it would take my " digestive tract " a bit of time to get used to processing food instead of liquid. And, boy is it ever having problems - still 3 weeks later. Everytime something hits my mouth - food, water, coffee - anything - it seems to " go right through me " (if you know what I mean). I spoke to my Oral Surgeon who suggested that I start using Metamucil or Citrucel to help " regulate things " - which I am doing. I am taking several doses a day. It's a little better - but no where near normal. Does anyone have any other advice or suggestions? I'll also talk to my OS again but I thought I'd ask what your collective wisdom thinks about getting this aspect back in shape. Thanks much. Guest guest
I had this problem for two solid (or liquid :<) days post-op after the first week of the liquid diet. My poor husband had to go to the pharmacy and ask what would work the best. He came back with a bottle of Kaopectate. I don't know if they make it in a regular strength or not, but it worked. I also stopped taking the Ensure with fibre (thanks to Cheryl's advice). I was pretty much chained to the toilet those few days, we only have one bathroom in our house and luckily just the two of us, but I urged him to be prompt in there as I never knew when I'd have to rush in. Hang in there! and make sure you drink lots of fluids to top up. Diarrhea can take a lot out of your system. > Hi there: > > It's been almost 3 weeks since I ditched my bands and liquid-only diet and began eating > mushy/soft food. Guest guest
The antibiotics may have killed off your intestinal flora and fauna. Try some live-culture yogurt if the other ideas you've received don't work out. BTW, the standard pediatric advice for diarrhea in children is the BRAT diet - bananas, rice, applesauce, toast. Actually, I'm not too sure about the applesauce part come to think of it, but the others should be correct. --Neil > Hi there: > > It's been almost 3 weeks since I ditched my bands and liquid-only diet and began eating > mushy/soft food. Guest guest
Thanks - I'll hang in there (not like I have a lot of choice). ---- > I had this problem for two solid (or liquid :<) days post-op after > the first week of the liquid diet. Guest guest
Mmmmm - good suggestion Neil. I " ll give this a whirl. I've been trying to do as much fiber foods as possible - per my OS. I'll include the items you mentioned. Thanks so much. Guest guest
Hi there: Thanks for the suggestions - I'll implement them all. It's such a nasty side effect. Guest guest
I like to simmer mine in honey or maple syrup or sorghum, with a dash of cinnamon. Add extra apple juice (or rum) and pour it hot over over dry oatmeal - it tastes a lot better than oatmeal cooked the regular way! Hmm, getting hungry now ...
