Guest guest
Hi Joanne Welcome back. Glad everything went well and so far you are pleased with the results. Been waiting for a post from you with your news! In your absence there has been an influx of UK people so I'm sure they will be all keen to hear how things went and I personally will be lapping up all the advice you receive from other members of this group as my surgery has now been booked for 14th April! I am sure things will be on the up for you from now on and things will get easier. Can you tell me how you felt with the congestion - that is worrying me a bit - a friend has just told me its a bit like scuba diving not being able to breathe through your nose. You can guess what I've never done!! Best wishes Sue (UK)
Guest guest
I never realised that there would be so many people from the UK on this site, although i seem to be the only one form Scotland, oh well. Guest guest
Hi Joanne! Im fairly new here, but Im also from the UK. If you you dont mind me asking, which surgeon did you have and would you recommend him/her? Was your surgery on the NHS or private? Thanks very much! I wish you the best of luck with your recovery! :) > Hi All > > I am 5 days post op and I thought I would share my surgery experiance. > > I was admitted on Tuesday for upper & lower jaw surgery. Guest guest
Congratulations, Joanne! I had my upper/lower/genio about 11 days ago and I had trouble with throat pain/congestion too. I still have lots of congestion now. My OS says that is to be expected and it will take a little time to clear up. Yes - the liquid antibiotic is quite awful! Glad I am done with that! I didn't have much pain at first - but now I get annoying headaches since I am so hungry all the time. I woke up after surgery banded - so you're lucky - the first few days banded shut with congestion (and I have asthma) were rough. But I am doing great breathing now. My OS widened my palate and repaired a deviated septum while he was in there - so my nose is fully functional! Guest guest
You aren't the only one from Scotland -- there was, anyhow, a woman way up in the Northern part who had to travel a long distance (or at least it seemed long to me, who lived something like 10 minutes from her ortho) for regular adjustments. I cannot for the life of me remember her name... I envy you, though. I was once in Edinburgh, many years ago, and was treated to one of the kindest, most generous dinners ever. Splendid ish salmon, and more silverware on the table than I could figure out -- and I live in the Deep South of the U.S.A., where we use piles of everything from oyster forks to butter knives! Sweet, sweet people, beautiful countryside and yummmmm! wonderful food. Even ice in my Gin and Tonic! Guest guest
Hi Sue Thanks for the support - Just woke up after a good nights sleep and having a lovely cup of tea and am feeling considerable better today ( I think that you see a vast improvment daily in these early stages) I wasn't so much congested in my nose (strangely that has been fairly clear in spite on the exensive upper work done ) - But the throat swelled and filled with gunk which made me feel very congested. One good thing that the nurses gave me on a regular basis (I loved those nurses BTW!!) was a " wet " oxygen mask to breath with help keep things moving. This helped clear out any gunk- this also helped me relax which is very important.( it was also a benefit being in hospital for 4 days too as i used this a lot!) I have been scuba diving too and i can see where the comparison is coming from - but it will become second nature to breath through your mouth if you have too - just like if you have a rally bad cold i suppose. Good luck for April - ask away any questions you have as I am sure they will increase as you get nearer to the time - one thing is - it does go quicker than you expect. Another thing - this board is very very useful leading up to the surgery but when you are actually going through surgery - It is fantastic :-) King Regards Joanne > Hi Joanne > > Welcome back. Guest guest
Hi My surgery was donr privately as I have Bupa cover at work ( but yes they do cover this surgery if it is medically necessary) - Also I dont believe the NHS will cover you if you are over a certain age - I am 32 so had no chance of getting on an NHS list :-( I did have to pay for the braces myself. I have no probelm sharing the details of my surgeon if you would like - ands I would totally recommend him - he is absolutely fantastic - would you like me to post his details or E Mail them to you. Where in the UK are you based ??? and what are you planning to have done??? Let me know what you need and i will share any advise I can re surgeons and insurance ( as It can be costly to cover yourself) Speak soon Joanne > > Hi All > > > > I am 5 days post op and I thought I would share my surgery > experiance. > > > > I was admitted on Tuesday for upper & lower jaw surgery. Guest guest
Hi Joanne How is your recovery going! I hope you're feeling good and you can see the results you wanted, swelling and bruising aside! I wanted to ask you whether your hospital gave you a list of requirements either needed in hospital or afterwards, before you went in. I'd like to be prepared for anything I might need. Is there anything you've found really useful you'd like to pass on! Did you feel you need someone with you 24/7 after the op? Presumably you need someone for the first few days. Best wishes Sue (UK)

Guest guest
A belated thanks!! Sorry about such a long delay! I think my orthdontist seemed fine about what I asked him, so touch wood I should be able to get it on the NHS, which is a relief to put it mildly! Thanks very much again, and I hope youre still doing great! > > > > > Hi All > > > > > > > > > > I am 5 days post op and I thought I would share my surgery > > > > experiance. > > > > > > > > > > I was admitted on Tuesday for upper & lower jaw surgery. > (Lower > > > > > rotated and moved fowards and upper leveled off to correct > > > > > asymetrical cant ) > > > > > > > > > > The surgery itself was no problem (about 5 hours)and i came > > round > > > > > from the anesthetic very quickly and was moved into the high > > > > > dependency unit for one night. > > > > > > > > > > I spent 4 days in hospital and was released friday morning - > > And > > > > the > > > > > care i recieved at the hospital was excellent. > > > > > > > > > > I have a numb chin and a lot of swelling and bruising and > look > > > like > > > > a > > > > > chipmunk (but on the whole I can see what the new look will > be > > > and > > > > I > > > > > like it aleady) > > > > > > > > > > I am not wired and can open a little so am on soup etc ( not > > that > > > I > > > > > feel like eating)- I will be getting my bands on tomorrow > > > > > > > > > > Today is the first day I have started to feel better but I am > > > still > > > > > having trouble sleeping any advice on sleeping ????? > > > > > > > > > > another thing - any advice on how to get rid on this gunk in > my > > > > > throat as It feels really clogged up > > > > > > > > > > I have already lost 7 Lbs in weight so I am trying to get > some > > > food > > > > > in me - But I now understand what people said when they > > described > > > > the > > > > > complete loss of appetite > > > > > > > > > > All in all it is tougher (pain wise) than I thought it would > be > > > > and > > > > > just taking the constant medication (I hate those liquid > > > > antibiotics) > > > > > > > > > > Any advice would be appreciated > > > > > > > > > > regards > > > > > > > > > > Joanne In London
