hello everyone,

its been a long while since i have posted with any updates. where to

start? well, at 5 weeks post op my ortho realized my crossbite was

pretty bad and that i had relapsed to a class 3 on the left side. So

off to the doctor i went, wondering what the heck was going on. For a

couple weeks afterwards i was closely watched. Well at nine weeks

post op i woke one morning very swollen and in entreme pain. I went

to my doctor and they relaized i had a very bad infection along the

plates and it had caused soft tissue damage. So 1 day after Christmas

i went in for emergency surgery to revome plates and scrap bone and

tissue. Again, i was closely watched. Well,i am feeling better, i am

still having pain and my left side of face is limp. The docs say it

may or may not come back which sucks but not really noticable to

others (but i see it).

Well this whole terrible ordeal with relapse, bad infection and many

long drives to the doctor has not gotten me down. I am scheduled for

a second BSSO on April 1, 2004. My doctor feels a 3 month healing

process from infection is all i need before i do it again. My doctor

had relaized a few things that may have caused relapse so those

things are getting taken care of prior to second surgery.

I know it might seem horrible and trust me at the time it was but i

have put long thought and many emotions behind the decision of a

second surgery. The relapse is only 3mm (had 8mm setback) so is only

really noticalble to me, but i am not happy (of course anger kicked

in for a moment). My friends and family try to tell me that i am

totally crazy, my dad thinks i shouldnt of messed with things in the

first place. So second go around my support system is slim. But trust

me, i learned so many things during the first surgery that the second

will be a breeze.

It has been a long a crazy experience, many sad days, many angry days

and many thoughts of just not doing it. I had to realize that if i

were to keep my bite the way it is i would totally regret even

putting myself through it in the first place.

So my ortho treatment is continuing, many doctor apointments to come,

but its worth the outcome. Thank you all for being supportive each

time i have came and posted, you all were supportive through my fear

of having it done, my anger of relapse and now i know ya'll help me

through a second go around. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!

Good Luck with everything and I am sorry that you have to go through

this again - we will all be here supporting you through your 2nd

surgery.

I have a question - you mentioned " that your doc. realized a few

things that may have caused relapse so those things are getting

taken care of prior to second surgery. " Could you go into that more

if you don't mind?

Thanks,
