Lots of us have had single (upper) jaw surgery. I'm not sure how to answer your other question. The exact procedure varies greatly depending on what it is in your bite that needs correction. I had an open bite where only my back molars met, and so my surgeon had to take out a portion of my upper jaw and angle the front downwards. It is called a LeForte procedure. Guest guest
My daughter had upper only (Le Fort 1 Advance). Two weeks ago I addressed this question by another and was quite thorough. If you are not able to get this reply off the site, please ask again and I will tell you exactly what the surgeon did for my daughter in this surgery. Has anyone has upper-jaw surgery alone? Has anoyone had upper jaw surgery alone, and if so, what was the procedure exactly?
Guest guest
I had only upper jaw surgery. They had to cut all along the gum line and cut the jaw so it was " loose in his hand " (as he put it). Then he had to tilt the back of the jaw down to close my open bite, which also caused my lower jaw to come foward and make my chin out more because it was too far back. There was actually nothing wrong with my lower jaw even though it seemed like that because it looked too short but because my upper jaw was not aligned and I had such a bad open bite, it made my lower jaw look too short. Then he put plates and screws in to secure the bone. That's as much as I know... > My daughter had upper only (Le Fort 1 Advance).
