Guest guest
I just had my surgery 10 days ago, along with 3 VERY impacted wisdom teeth removed. I can honestly say that it wasn't that bad. I was pretty sleepy the first day and it was a bit difficult to get fluids to swallow, mainly because everything was numb, but I really felt improvement quickly. I bruised quite a bit and pain wasn't bad, I used the percocet the first 24 hours only, then switched to ibuprofen. I think the most important thing is to diligently use use packs the first 2-3 days (as long as you are still swollen) - I am a nurse and knew this would REALLY help so I was pretty fanatical about it. The turning of the key doesn't hurt to do - but there is some pressure that can be relieved with the ibuprofen. I don't know how much it costs 'cause my insurance paid for all except the pulling of the wisdom teeth, but if you have any other questions, I would be happy to answer them. Lori SARPE I've been needing Rapid Palate Expansion surgery for over a year, but I've been too scared to do it. Has anyone done it & was it very difficult? Also, I do not have insurance to cover it. Does anyone know how much it costs? I'd appreciate any info. Thank you.
Guest guest
My SAPRE experience is similar. I think my insurance company was billed around $10,000. It is not cheap. Surgery is only about $2000, rest is hopital, anethesia, etc. > I just had my surgery 10 days ago, along with 3 VERY impacted wisdom teeth removed. I can honestly say that it wasn't that bad. Guest guest
Okay...sent a reply but it never showed up...try this again. I had a SARPE on May 5th this year and honestly the worst part (IMO of course), was the worrying about it. The procedure was a breeze. I had a bit of nausea afterwards, but they also snowed me with a huge dose of morphine in recovery...so I think that's where the nausea came from. I used a few T3's in hospital. Stayed overnight in case of bleeding problems. Used plain tylenol at home afterward but had T3's just in case. They cranked me almost as wide as I needed to get in the OR, so I only needed a few turns at home.... " just to be safe " ..as my ortho was on vacation the week after my operation. All it felt like was tightness. I had zero pain when I got home. Had the expander in for 4 months, and the part that hurt the worst to me wasn't anything to do with the surgery...it hurt when they took the expander out. I had a very uneventful recovery...and found out I had healed nicely when I got puched in the face by an overdose patient at our ER. Only cost to me was $500.00 for he surgeon. Our provincial insurance plan (OHIP) paid the hospital bill and everything else. Good luck, and hopefully things work out for you! > I've been needing Rapid Palate Expansion surgery for over a year, but > I've been too scared to do it. Guest guest
Hello, I had a SARPE on July 18 and five months later I am still experiencing numbness, stiffness and discomfort in my face. My bite is still off, making it impossible for me to eat certain foods. I still have the expander, which won't be removed until February at the earliest. While others have had a more positive experience than I have had, I must say in all honesty that I would not recommend the surgery to anyone else. I keep an online journal of my experiences, located at the following link: http://mybrilliantsmile.blogspot.com/ My health insurance covered the surgery itself, but as it was out-of-network I had to pay about $1,000 out of pocket. > I've been needing Rapid Palate Expansion surgery for over a year, but > I've been too scared to do it. Guest guest
I am so sorry you continue to have troubles. Do your docs have any explanation, other than " nerve damage " ? I know that people sometimes have a problem for quite a while after Le Fort, particularly, with stiffness in the face, but I think it's gone away for everybody I remember... Hope yours will, too! Guest guest
Thanks Cammie, I discuss these issues at every appointment with my ortho and other docs. They say things will get better with time. I hope they are correct. Guest guest
I'm just checking...During the " itchy " time, were you taking a codeine-based pain killer? The reason why I am asking is that after taking codeine for a couple days, you can get this feeling like you are coming down with " invisible hives " . I always thought that I was allergic to codeine until a doctor explained to me that those " itchies " are just a side effect of codeine, and switched me to another pain reliever.
