Hi ,

Sorry you are having a rough time. Don't worry, soon you will be

feeling so much better. My first week was also pretty lousy.

Did you have upper? If so that may be why you are congested. You

should get some sudafed, it will help with the stuffy head. Also,

did you get Afrin? It should be ok for you to use that.

Are you able to open your mouth at all? I was banded after the first

9 days but the bands were very loose so I was able to use a spoon and

drink from a cup too.

Let us know how you are progressing.

Happy Healing,

Dear ,

If it is any consulation - you sound very normal. We found the saline nose

spray to help alot in rinsing out the nose and making it easier to breathe.

Hurray for doing this. You are going to be just fine. Juli

my first post after surgery

OK, my surgery was on dec 12th. its now the 18th. today is the

first day i have felt OK to sit at my computer. oh man its been a

rough 6 days. i was in the hospital for 3 days. a friend brought

me home and has stayed with me. i *though* i had prepared myself

for this, but LOL i had no clue what this would be like. my

face is still very swollen, i really look like a blowfish. the

liquid pennicillin i have to take 6 times a day tastes absolutely

toxic and i think more of it ends up on my shirt than in my

stomach. I dont have much pain. which is especially good because

the lortab also tastes vile.

its difficult to drink. so i am pretty weak. my nose is stuffed

with dried blood, which i am carefully trying to remove. the area

under my eyes is turning slowly from black to yellow. like i

said, not much pain. just lots of discomfort because of the swelling

and some difficulty breathing----which is just me getting used to

have my mouth banded shut.

And do i need to mention how hungry I am? LOL. sorry if this

message is kinda all over the place. I think im still scatter-

brained from the surgery and the dilaudid they gave me after.

I'll post more later. I'm pooped and it took me 20 minutes to type

this.

:)

Hi !

I'm glad you're surviving :) The first week is really the hardest. It

should get better and better each day. I had my surgery on Dec 10th

and have been feeling much better in the last few days. Still swollen

(but much less) - and all bruised up (but I can live with that)

Getting really sick of my liquid diet though. I was watching my

boyfriend eat 'real food' yesterday and I was jealous :)

Happy healing!

Scatterbrained is fine. Being able to post at all is wonderful!

Two thoughts: Afrin (but use it very, very carefully and not more

frequently than recommended, or it will give you a rebound) and

something like liquid Sudafed. Both have been known to help with

congestion, as do hot showers, or a pot of steaming water. The key

word here is steam, to open up the tissues. Just don't burn yourself!

It should start getting better soon. How long do you have to be

banded shut?

Bruising will go away, and so will swelling. You just gotta be

stubborn and outwait them!

BUT: Those liquids (and nourishment) are both VERY important. Some

folks have wound up back in the hospital with dehydration from not

taking in enough fluids, and you really don't wanna go there. (You

just escaped, remember?)

Take care. We're thinking of you.

Hi :

I can sure relate to everything you are saying. I had mine on

November 24th and as the 4th week approaches i feel more and more

like my old self. The first week was the worst for sure. I spent two

nights in the hospital and was glad to get home, but from there i

experienced good days and bad days. My mom luckily was with me

nursing me up until the 7th day. Some days I would have energy

enough to get out and even drive. Other days, it was all I could do

to just lay around and be waited on. I think my swelling went way

down on the 4th day and now i notice changes each week. I was most

uncomfortable with my nose at night, but Qtips dipped in peroxide

helped open it some, just use gently. And I'm still using my

vaporizer at night which helps keep my sinus moist. It just takes

time. Hang in there.

Oh forgot to mention, another thing that helped a lot with my nose

was the use of a syringe bulb that you can get at the drug store.

Since I had sinus surgery, I use it daily to help with my allergies.

My surgeon said it was ok to use after this surgery. You just mix a

teaspoon of salt with a teaspoon of baking soda with distilled

water. Draw it up in the bulb and gently rinse each nostril as you

lean over the sink. It really helps loosen up the dried blood and

keep your nose moist.
