Guest guest
Hello Alba: My name is Vera, I live here in the USA. My husband also has MSA and been DX since Oct 98. I just wanted to welcome you to the group. I'm sorry I only speak English, but wanted you to know that other here on the group do speak French, so I'm sure they will be able to help you with any question that you have, to where you will understand it. Also these are some that are on the group that are live in France that may be able to help you with information & etc. I hope that they will contact you. You have come to the right place for answers. God Bless Vera ********************************************* From: "alba2fr" <albab@c...> Date: Fri Feb 8, 2002 11:14 am Subject: Presentation My english is very, very bad. Please, excuse me. I live in Paris.I am a woman , 61 years old. I have very "heavy" problems since two years, november 1999. The diagnostic was done in the Pitié-Salpétriêre Hospital in Paris by Professor MEININGER. The first symptom is a very severe orthostatic hypotension sometimes 7/4.. with some very short loss of consciousness.. I complain but i hear that "I am depressive woman".. Then, after multiple tests , i have the diagnostic: Shy-Drager. I have a treatment with fludrocortisone.. I have to-day goood result, I think.. My tension is about 9/6, sometimes 11/8. So I am better in the morning but I am very, very tire very rapidly if I want to make some works. all the other symptoms are alwals here : movements very slow, urinary incontinence, constipation , very big dolors in muscles (legs ..) But i want to discuss with you about a loss of concentration very hard for me. In France, actually, we have any association. The Parkinson Association thinks that we have "specific" symptoms and specific drugs. I agree. So I am very happy to find your group . Thanks to read my first message. Guest guest
Alba, Welcome, though sorry you are here. My mother Joyce, who died at 71 last year from complications, had a loss of concentration, too. It bothered her a lot. That is a very common symptom that she was unable to do much about unfortunately. Although MSA patients have specific symptoms, my mother benefited greatly from attending the local Parkinson's support group. Lots of the issues and medications overlap. Good luck, Debbie -

Guest guest
Alba, Welcome to our group, sorry that you had to find our family. Your symptoms sound like normal MSA (Shy-Drager) symptoms. Your experience of hearing that it is " depression " is also very common as many doctors do not know about MSA. Your English is better than my French, but I could get my eight year old grandson to translate for me as he has been taking French for three years. However, this website translates also: http://babelfish.altavista.com/tr Votre anglais est meilleur que mon Français, mais je pourrais obliger mon petit-fils âgé de huit ans à traduire pour moi car il avait pris des Français pendant trois années. Cependant, ce website traduit également On the movement problems, levodopa may help (or amantadine or baclofen). Range of motion exercises also help movement. Incontinence may also be helped with medication but in most cases patients use adult briefs or diapers. Constipation is a continuing problem and fiber needs to be added to the diet - but stool softeners and laxitives help many people also. Drinking two litres of liquid per day also helps. Loss of concentration may be helped with an antidepressant medicine as depression IS a symptom of MSA also. Take care.
