Guest guest
Lizanne, I too have had to wait an extremely long time. I brought my application into the doctors office in the middle of January 2003. I finally got a call back for an appointment in May and the appointment was scheduled for July 15th with the nutritionist. All my other appointments are at the end of August and first three weeks in September. My last appointment is to see the doctor on September 17th. I hope they will schedule my surgery soon after that but of course, my insurance has to approve first. So, I'm maybe looking at October. I started my journey actually in December 2002 when my Pulmonary doctor recommended this surgery. Guess what...my last appointment before I see the surgeon is with the exact same Pulmonary doctor who recommended me for the surgery in the first place...I have to see her again for the exact same checkup..So, I know where you are coming from. I see so many people who have waited 2, 3, 4 and 5 months for their surgeries and they think that's long...It's very frustrating but I know in the long run, it will be worth it. I know in my case, my surgeon is the only one around who does the surgery and is suppose to be excellent so the way I look at it, it's worth the wait. However, I too feel your pain and frustration...I'm there with you...Good Luck...Carol
Guest guest
Well while you wait, you better prepare... I got in fast, and now I wish I would have been more prepared.. Don't be jealous of anyone who has gotten in for surgery quickly.. Most likely, there not as " ready, " as others who had to wait.. Enjoy life now as much as you can.. You don't know how much you take for granted, until it's no longer there. And don't look at the time, look at just being fortunate enough to be getting in at all.. Take it easy.. And most importantly, be patient.. You're time is approaching faster than you think.. Goodluck.. Greer

Guest guest
Thank you for the encouragement. It's funny that eventhough your previous posting told how miserable you are, you still didn't tell me not to have the surgery. The more postings I read, the scarier it seems, but I'm like you, I only have about 100 lbs to lose, so I figure I'm better off than others who are bigger. Then within the last week a person wrote about her friend who was only 28 (I'm 49) who died from this surgery. Then I think, well I'm having my surgery done at s Hopkins which is one of the top 10 hospitals in the US, and my doctor is the head of surgery there. How can things possibly go wrong. But the big thing appears not to be the sugery itself but how well the patients adapt to this massive change. Will I be like my brother who has had the sugery and eats anything? There is nothing he can't eat except sugary drinks. He just eats a lot less than he used to. He lost a lot of weight and he isn't even a year post-op yet. Will I be like him, or like you who is upset in all areas of life right now. There are many questions, but no real answers until I experience the operation myself. I'll need that positive attitude that I have been getting from people like you. Thanx Lizanne pre-op forever > Well while you wait, you better prepare... Guest guest
Hi I waited from the end of October until the middle of May for my first consult. I was/am greatful for the time (slow thinker). Things have happened quickly since then and if there has been any slow up it has been me. My surgery is the 28th of this month. So all in all about 10 months. > Did you all have to wait forever for your appointments? For example, Jan 15 I called my surgeon for an appointment. I was told that I was in luck because they had a cancellation. My appt was set for July 2, if there hadn't been a cancellation I'd have to wait until Sept. Well, I had the appt and everything went great, and I was pre- approved for the open RnY. I've been waiting for my surgery date. Although I've been calling twice a week since 7/2, this past Friday I was told that my surgery will be in Feb or Mar 04. I was supposed to call back today for a firm date. I just called, the person who was supposed to get me a firm date is on vacation. How can she go on vacation when she told me to call her? Do you think she's trying to avoid me? Have any of you had to wait over a year for your surgery? Please, I need to feel like something is really going to happen. I'm dying here.
