Now you just relax and give your body a chance to heal it takes anywhere from 6 months to a year to fully heal. Don't worry just eat what you are supposed to at the right stage and you will lose the weight ok. Now you have to work on that head hunger there are plenty of things that are low fat low carb and high protein that taste great and when your surgeon says so you will be able to enjoy them. Remember it takes time so don't become a scale junkie LOL and don't compare yourself to anyone else as far as how fast you are going to be losing ok your body is unique and special and it will lose at a rate that is just right for you. Guest guest Posted August 13, 2003 Report Share Posted August 13, 2003 Hello everyone, My name is Jess, and I just had surgery August 4th. I had been thinking about having it for over a year. I didnt realize it until I was starting to get qualified I was actually 315 pounds. To my surprize I passed the physical, I'm 26 and have no major health problems. I had surgery about a week and a half ago. The surgery itself went well, or so I'm told.. not that i remember any of it, lol. The post- op " care " was pretty sad. I don't really know what it was supposed to be like, but I went home bruised (as expected from the numerous IV's), blisters on the back of my legs and really horrible back spasm pain that lasted about 3 days. They didn't let us (my roommmate and i) take a shower or get cleaned up until 4 days after surgery, and also didn't get to eat anything, ice chips until 4 days later. The nurses would sometimes take an hour, hour and a half to respond, and the last night in the hospital I had no IV (I had one but it had moved or just become useless, didn't stop a nurse from trying to use it though) and thats the night I got back spasms all up and down my back, and they gave me liquid vicodin that worked for about 2 hours, and they wouldn't give me more till about 5 hours later. The first couple days I wasn't able to go to the bathroom on my own, and I actually put on water weight. I gained 10 pounds, but by the time i left I was back to the weight I was before surgery. (I had tried a few times to go on my own, but couldn't. One of the nurses said to me in a sort of threatning way, you better go or im going to straight cath you) So I've been home since Friday, and yesterday was the first day I've actually felt good. Now that I'm pratically healed, I'm hungry again. Everytime my family cooks a meal for themselves I just want to scream. My post-op appointment with my surgeon isn't until the 21st (its supposed to be 10 days) and right now I'm stuck with protien shakes, which aren't terrible but its definitely no steak dinner! I don't mean to sound so negative, but so far this experience hasn't brought much positive, we have a scale here but its older than I am and I'm not sure how much weight I've lost since the hospital. I can tell a difference in my legs, and a little in my belly. I don't regret doing it, I'm just getting very anxious already to see the results. (i'm not known for my patience, lol) I'm glad I found a friendly support group and I look forward to hearing everyone elses stories and getting to know people. I would get in touch with the " Chief of Staff " of that miserable hospital and file a complaint immediately with him/her. They are there for the patients care and all to quickly the miserable bit**** forget that. I wish I could have been there. I would have had those so and so's beggin to take care of you. I am furious at this. I have had to show my tail when my sister was in for like her forth hernia surgery. When I threatened to get the Chief of Staff in there and cussed em all out I got some real quick results. They don't want their job threatened for sure. My sister said it was her Terms of Endearment moment. lol. But we are grown up adults and people on the street that don't even know us , most times anyway, treat us better. And they are in a job field where care and compassion have to take priority. This has really just ticked me off in the worst kind of way. When I get in there for my surgery they will know my name and my face well if they even remotely try that crap with me. I am so so sorry you went through all of that. To know that people can be so heartless and so cruel. Just know this one day they will be on the other side of the fence. And when they are treated so unkindly lets see how they like it. The first thing you have to do is buy a new scale---you are going to love seeing how much weight you are losing, b/c it is such a great feeling! i am 10 months postop, and although i am not eating any big steak dinners, i do enjoy food a lot more now than before my surgery. i know it is not easy living on liquids, but make sure you are drinking enough or you will get dehydrated quickly--i didn't and it was miserable, they had to put me back in the hospital about a month after my surgery.
