Guest guest
Vicky, You sound like you have got it VERY together for the interview. I wish you luck and commend you for taking a stand against these ridiculous insurance companies. I lucked out -- mine was excellent -- but I have heard the horror stories. Good Luck! Guest guest
Hi all I have been lurking these last few weeks but now again I need HELP! I opened my big mouth and sent off my letter to the insurance company and to the news channels and the local NBC station is coming here to INTERVIEW ME on Wednesday morning!!! ME! All 350+ lbs of ME!!! I am so scared I can hardly think straight. I have to go on TV and tell the whole world I look like a pig and weigh 350+ lbs and my insurance won't pay for my surgery. I can't believe I got myself into this!!! When I am not having a panic attack I am trying to think of the important points I would like to make on TV and here they are -: 1. It is perfectly legal and even considered OK to discriminate against obese people in every aspect of life. We pay more for clothes (when we can find them); some airlines want to charge us for 2 seats; people say all kinds of mean and hurtful things to us; car seat belts aren't created to hold more than about 275 lbs; when up for a job we are often passed over just because of our looks; and so on. 2. For an obese person to be approved for surgery I (or is it we?) have to jump through hoops and humiliate myself. I have to prove that I have tried diets, gone to shrinks, gone to nutritionists and have failed at everything I have tried. In other words - I have to be a failure to get surgery! 3. If an alcoholic gets Cancer they do not have to quit drinking before they can get treatment for the Cancer. They do not have to prove that they tried to quit. They just get treatment. If a smoker gets sick they also just go in for treatment. 4. A drug abuser does not have to try to quit drugs alone before the insurance will pay for rehab. Have I left anything important out? Please critique and get back to me ASAP. NBC will be here 10am on Wed morning! HELP ME!!! Thanks family Vicky
Guest guest
I think Vickie had a good point with the smoking. If a smoker gets lung cancer, it is not required that they stop smoking before they receive treatment for the lung cancer. Ive taken care of people who have their oxygen mask in one hand and their cigarette in the other (very dangerous too as oxygen is flammable) and their insurance is paying for their repeated hospitalizations, treatments and medications. Guest guest
Vicky I think you've said it all beautifully! Just insert in the part where you said that you'd been passed over for jobs-make sure they realize that the people they pass you over for sometimes don't even have any experience and you do. This happened to me when I went to apply for a bank job. I have TONS of experience with cash handling and what have you but they passed me over for an 18 year old with NO experience and big boobs! Let us know when the interview will air and on what program (if it's national). I'd like to see it. H-E-L-P!!! NBC Interview!!! Guest guest
Good for you...Be proud, not nervous. My only suggestion is to avoid the issue of smoking. The main reason that they suggest (not demand) that patients quit is because smoking can interfere with the anesthesia, can create post-operative pulmonary problems, heavy coughing can burst the sataples, and it retards the healing process. Focus on your early points...they are damned good! > Hi all > > I have been lurking these last few weeks but now again I need HELP! > > I opened my big mouth and sent off my letter to the insurance company > and to the news channels and the local NBC station is coming here to > INTERVIEW ME on Wednesday morning!!! > > ME!
