Interested in how many of you have been told Gatorade is ok.Also

wondering if swimming is sufficient, I am up to 15 laps, 30 pool

lenghts about 5 times a week. Still find walking very painful due to

arthritis & degenerative disc disease. Thanks for the input.

Hi :)

Gatorade is NOT ok because it is high in sugar. But Gatorade makes a

product called Propel which is VERY similar to Gatorade but without

all the sugar. I drink Propel all the time and love it :)

As for swimming, I just got back from the pool. I've been swimming

laps almost every other day to every day since June. Depending on

the stroke you are doing, the length of the pool, and whether you

are swimming straight laps with flip turns, etc. (ie: are you

swimming aerobically?), swimming can be the best form of exercise

short of skiing and stair climbing in terms of burning calories.

Swimming also tends to work out a greater variety of muscles

throughout the body than most other forms of exercise.

Hope this helps and sending many smiles :)

I think a lot of it depends on whether one is doing low carb, low

calorie diets and also whether one dumps or not. And it does come

back to different surgeons/nutritionists say different things. And

often, we can be given faulty information...

Personally, even if it is ok to drink Gatorade (or soda as well), I

won't. I figure that if I am going to take in 100+ calories per

serving, I'd rather have it be a source of protein and without all

the added carbs. And for the potassium and other nutrients Gatorade

has which is great for working out, I can get that from Propel which

tastes the same, has just as much nutrients and is only 10 calories

per serving.

Hi :)

That's probably the best thing you can do anyway :) Water is free

from all the coloring, sucrose, sugars, etc. etc. The more pure the

better :) I am trying to wean myself off the SF, non-carb drinks by

diluting them more and more with plain water. For some reason,

straight water makes me very nauseous and feels heavy in my pouch.

But I never liked plain water, even pre-op, so perhaps it is just in

my head... I'd love to get to the point where I can drink it pure :)

Sending smiles :)

Dumping or to dump refers to feeling very sick (nausea, cold sweats,

vomitting, etc.) following having something with sugar in it. It is

very common for about 70% of RNY Bypass patients.
