Guest guest
glad everything went well. I just joined the group. My name is Angie and I am considering this surgery. I hope you have a speedy recovery. Please, keep me informed, I m sure I will need all the advice I can get. good luck Angie I am home! Hello all Distal RnY Gastric Bypass went smooth on Friday. No real difficulties other than muscle spasms in my abdomen. That has cause more discomfort the the incision or drain. Thanks for all the information before i went in. I feel ver in control of my own care. I was one of three bypasses that day and the first bypass performed at that hospital. We had three surgeons. One surgeon up from Florida that now lives and performs surgery in the Detroit area. He was the proctor. All and all we were in good hands, but the hospital was a bit new, so maybe out care was more general and not bariatric centered. Like my room mate ordered in pizza the first night i was there and also had so many guests...lol and as you guess it, she didnt have a gastric bypass. Looking forward to catching up on emails. Guest guest
Lori, I would of killed the person next to you who had the pizza. Better yet I would of made hurling noises! Smells really bothered me the first couple of weeks. And with having major surgery you don't want a lot of comings and goings. The spasms or aches will go away over time. You're home now, so work on resting, and healing. Congrats! cary 04/08/03 open RNY -77 lbs Dallas, TX > Hello all > > Distal RnY Gastric Bypass went smooth on Friday. Guest guest
Deb, Thanks for your support and I was #2 of the three that day. I was up and walking soon. My surgery was at 10am, done at 12 and to my room by 2pm. I was up walking by 4pm at the latest, but hard to tell since you are on so many drugs. It was hard, but worth it. It was a good experience overall. I wouldnt say pain free, but they are there to make you comfortable. Your day is coming soon. Ask anything you like. Guest guest
Thanks for the welcome home Lori. I want to remember to ask him about the surgeon and the facility he trained at also. Just trying to drink my water and rest. It is uncomfortable at times. Lori Open RnY 8/1/03 > > Hello all > > > > Distal RnY Gastric Bypass went smooth on Friday. Guest guest
Thanks Angie and welcome to this great group of people. Please feel free to ask anything. Let me tell you a little bit about my surgery. I had the open RnY and my incision is about 7 inches long. It is closed with staples for now and I have a drain about 3 inches to the right of my incision. It has a small (smaller than a pencil) tube attached and a bulb at the end. The bulb holds the fluid that is draining from around my internal organs. I can empty it myself and do that several times a day. It works like a suction because you squeeze all the air out the the bulb when you drain it. It then pulls from the body. It also have some drainage that leaks out from where it is inserted into my body. It doesnt hurt at all, just a pain and in the way. I had muscle spasms, but the other two girls having surgery the same day as i did, had no spasms. I remember nothing of the operating room or the recovery room. Just waking up in my room with my family around. They give you plenty of pain meds, so no need to worry about pain. They had be up and walking within 2 hrs of getting to my room and i was up at least 3 times before the next morning. I spent 4 days in the hospital because i live 90 miles away and he wasnt sure if he wanted me to stay or not.. so i asked.. can i stay please..lol I have a one week checkup tomorrow and I have been on complete clear liquids. I might get to move to full clear tomorrow.. lets hope so..lol I am sick of this. I have been doing this for 1.5 days before surgery also. Hope you find the info helpful and good luck to you. Feel free to ask anything. Lori - MI Open RnY 8/1/03 > glad everything went well. I just joined the group. My name is Angie and I am considering this surgery. I hope you have a speedy recovery.
