Guest guest
Hey everyone, Elicia here! Hope you are all doing well. I have been through two hospital stays and several er visits in the last two months, so haven't been up on how everyone is doing lately. I have only turned on the puter twice while home and didn't have the strength to read back through all the posts I missed. ANYWAY.....I went to a gastro at OSU Med Ctr on Monday. They did a full blood work up. I was shocked when she called me at home in the evening with " bad news " . My cholestoral was at 324 and my triglycerides are at 526!!!!!!!!!! (normal is below 200 on cholestoral and below 150 on triglycerides!) YIKES! She wanted me to contact me PCP immediately in the morn and advise him that she was faxing him the results and I needed immediate attention. I called, my PCP called back said to fast and come in this morning for another lipid workup, which I did. Now for those of you that don't know me. I am 5'7 " and normally weigh about 125 lbs. I lost 30 lbs when I became extremely sick last year with the chronic panc. After my second ERCP this past April they put me on enzymes and needless to say have been on a low fat diet. (Watching the saturated fat content on everything so no more than 20 mgs a day of it.) I began to gain weight for the first time in my life. Got up to 140 lbs!!! Brought it up at EVERY dr's visit and was brushed off. Plus I started having migraines, which I've never had. Well, come to find out, with a low fat diet you MUST ALSO INCREASE YOUR FIBER INTAKE!!! No one told me this. Everything you eat for fiber should contain no less than 3grams per serving to be effective. All the food I've been taking in is going to my " fatty liver " and clogging the intake area of Mr P!! Just wanted to pass this on. I know in the past there have been posts regarding weight gain. If you have experienced this problem, please go to your doc and get a blood draw to check your cholestoral and triglycerides ASAP. A lipid screen usually will tell all. Now I have to go on more meds, a stricter diet, and hope I don't die of a heart attack in the meantime!!! Well, I apologize for the rambling, but this really gets to me sometimes. If the liver and panc are all related to these levels, then why wasn't the doc checking them each month like he does my amylase and lipase??!?!?!?! Who knows. Just a kind word of caution. PCP said, 'maybe once we get these numbers down to where they should be you'll have less pain with your pancreas. " duh! Hope you all have a great evening!! Hugs from Ohio, Elicia
