Guest guest
I wish to address the matter re ingredients. First, let me clarify that I think it is commendable for rosaceans to read ingredients in a product. However, one needs to have a proper perspective. Reading ingredients is of primary importance to those who have allergies. If one is allergic to sulfa, for example, even a minute amount of it in a product, will most likely cause contact dermatitis and a reaction. If one has ultra-sensitive skin, reading ingredients is important to avoid harsh chemicals that might cause irritant dermatitis. However, this depends on the concentration (percentage) of that particular ingredient. The presence of a minute amount of said ingredient may not necessarily elicit a reaction. It is true that ingredients are listed in the order of descending proportions. However, in a water-base formulation, sometimes water and a second ingredient, may occupy 95% of the formulation, leaving the concentration of the rest of other ingredients very much diluted. In such a case, one may not react, even if an ingredient is the third on the list. Re the issue of comedogenicity. Just because a product contains oil or oil-based esters, does not necessarily mean that the final formulation will be comedogenic. This is the controversy re mineral oil, petrolatum and like ingredients. I happen to think highly of mineral oil which has gotten a bum rap, for unfair reasons. Many of our products have been around for 18 years with long, favorable history. The final formulations have been stringently tested. I have found our Moisture Lotion For Dry Skin (which contains mineral oil) to be well liked, beneficial and not comedogenic in many of my patients with rosacea, through the years. However, it is prudent to say that not all our products are suitable for rosacean skin. That is why I developed the Zinco and Vita-Oil for this support group.
