If like here in Hobart the cf clinic does not have an ENT then medicare will cover most of the consultation fees. You will need a referral - a suggestion get an ongoing referral from your GP, a referral from a paed will only last 3 - 6 months and I'm not sure if they can write an ongoing referral. Our ENT basically operates out of the private hospitals around town, he says that getting hospital time at a decent time of day is very difficult - we sure don't want anyone fiddling with Ainslie's sinuses if they are even remotely tired. Ainslie routinely has an antihistimine nasal spray called Livostin - since she started this she has had polyps less frequently about 2 1/2 yrs between surgeries. I also give her a nasal decongestant sparingly (to avoid the rebound effect) but it is very useful to sometimes stop a congestion cycle or to give a good nights sleep, especially helps with post nasal drip coughs. Ainslie is on constant antibiotics for basically her sinuses she has culture psuedo in there last surgery 2 yrs ago now, but this time she seems to be alot clearer I have included garlic, horseradish and marshmallow tablets as part of her regular routine since last time so maybe that has made the difference.
