Guest guest
Hi all, Just wanted to chime in on the stool test front and add that they can be extremely inaccurate- what's in one poop may not be in the next. My son had a comp. stool analysis from Great Plains which showed nothing of signifigance except that his good bacteria levels were fairly low (esp. after supplementing for YEARS!) and that his strep and e.coli levels were a bit high (it is normal to have some of these bacteria in the gut, but my son's are out of balance.) Anyhow, we also ran an organic acids test (OAT) also via Great Plains--urine test that shows metabolites from various yeast/bacteria you may have-- and my son apparently has a massive Clostridia infection that the stool test missed. I knew he had something growing in there- his stimming has been a huge problem for over a year, and no yeast treatment was helping much. Has anyone got rid of stimming via SCD? This is our biggest problem right now. My son is normal in most aspects but just can't stop flapping- it's like an involuntary compulsion sometimes. It comes and goes, too. My entire revolves around figuring out what is causing this. It started about 1.5 yrs ago. I'm hoping it's the Clostriia and treating that will eliminate the behavior. BTW- I'm Becky--new to this list, and I'm really starting to get into the SCD swing of things. Esp. after getting our OAT results back, I know I need to address diet heavily. I've finally learned to use my food processor after several years I'm keeping my son dairy and nut free due to very high Igg allergies to almost everything--ironically, the only foods he doesn't test high to are many of those allowed on SCD--meats, some fruits, veggies. So this is the way for us to go on several levels--avoiding allergens and starving gut bugs. I will do anything at this point to stop the maniacal running in circles and constant itching of his skin!! So, we've been about 90% SCD for the last couple weeks up until yesterday, when I had a moment of stupidity and weakness and gave him french fries (his previous fave. food-we were at Disneyland and didn't pack enough food for him) Today he's off in stim land again. Lesson learned, thank you. I am still working on getting SCD compliant meds and supps. So far, I've noted: constant hunger, esp. the first week- he just could not be satisfied. I was doing the same diet and felt the same way- I felt very hypoglycemic and almost nauseated, weak. Does this go away after a while on the diet? I am literally cooking for him all day long. A flatter stomach. His pants are falling off --I don't know if he's lost weight (hes thin already) but I can tell his belly is flatter. He is 5 and weighs 40 lbs. More normal stool pattern--before, he would poo every other day--one normal poo, formed, good color-- followed by at least one more BM that was loose, gassy, and off color. Now, he still goes every other day, but it is just one or two normal poos-no more exlosive gas or floating, frothy stuff. Maybe a bit less stimming, maybe not. Eczema slightly down on his legs. I need to rule out reaction to a few fruits he is eating (cantaloupe, esp). He really will eat more and a variety of vegetables if he's hungry enough and there's no junk in the house that he'd rather have, LOL I do have a few questions for you experts who are still reading (I hope)-- 1. I know xylitol is illegal--this confuses me since I had always read that xylitol does NOT feed yeast and can even kill strep-- anyone know the reasoning behing the conflicting opinions? 2. I would like to try some kind of fiber supp. to get my son pooping daily. All that I've looked at have some sort of illegal in them. What about apple pectin? Label just reads " apple pectin " .......I'm assuming it would be okay since apples are okay? Are there any other legal supps to increase motility? My son is not typically constipated, just not regular. 3. Does anyone know of a " green drink " powder that is legal and consists just of vegetables? I want to avoid all the herbs and grasses in the typical mixes. 4. It sure would be nice to have a flour to use to bake stuff. We are staying nut free for the time being, so how can I make flour out of white beans-anyone? You can buy it at the HFS, but I'm sure the beans were not soaked. Has anyone cooked anything using green pea flour--is that possible? Down the road I'd like to try maybe using macadamia nuts or sunflower seeds to make goodies--does anyone have any ideas for using these? 5. How long before you saw behavioral improvements? Thanks if you're still reading......I'm off to cook some mayo and ketchup!! Becky E, Stool tests are not always accurate for yeast. I hope it was for your son. But I cannot imagine that he's been on antbiotics and consuming a lot of starch and he DOESN'T have a yeast problem. Most completely normal people get yeast problems when on antibiotics.
