Guest guest
I read the book last night and while very imformative, I still have a few questions before starting SCD. I want to be sure and follow the diet closely so I do need some answers first. Background: My dev delayed with sensory issues 3yo son is nonverbal and has immature chewing skills, he attends special county preschool 2xs/wk and they get a snack & lunch there. Since June 2005 he gets the Houston enzymes (AFP Pep, ZP and NoFenol) at home with every meal and 2xs a day without food. He gets 1.5mg melatonin, 50mg 5- HTP at night 30 minutes before bed. Chewable Houston probiotic during midday. Reflux medication - 1 Prevacid tablet, soluable in water in a.m. Questions: School - Currently he gets a school provided snack and school provided lunch. Do I simply imform the school he can't have their food and provide them with some alternatives for him? I do recall his teacher asking if I intended to send in his lunch when he first started at school since he hardly chewed anything at that point - but I opted to let them try and feed him however they could to get him used to different foods/textures. Enzymes- I see that AFP peptizyde and Zyme Prime are not listed as legal supplements, does that mean they are illegal? I've been purchasing the powdered form to mix into his drink. Should we simply stop all enzymes and wait for the SCD to correct digestive issues or purchase the legal ones on continue his routine for a period of time? He had a bad four days when we ran out of NoFenol, so what about giving just the NoFenol for a period of time? Melatonin- I see melatonin is listed as illegal, but it's also listed as legal if it's Kirkman's melatonin with magnesium? He can't fall asleep without it at this point, and we have both so which should we use? Chewing Issues - Cody has difficulty chewing as he still wants to just swallow most foods. Any suggestions on how to handle this? Basic Diet - Does he really eat everything listed on the basic diet? It seems like alot of food for him since he doesn't usually eat that much. Do I just give him tiny portions of each thing? How can I prepare everything for him based on my chewing & school questions? Thank you for taking the time to help me - I so want to do the right thing for Cody and this seems like it would help him greatly.
