Guest guest
, welcome to the club. I woke up in the middle of my third ERCP and I was still drugged enough that I couldn't move, so there was no way to tell them I was awake. The anesthesologist finally realized I was fighting the tubes too much and gave me more. Now, I ALWAYS talk to the Anesthesiologist before an ERCP (I hope I don't need anymore - cause I ain't having them). From then onward, I have been terrified of the procedure. I have to talk to the anesthesiologist ahead of time and when they take me to the operating room, they cannot show me the tubes or I have hysterics. They have to wait till I'm far into the medication before they can even bring out the fiberoptic tubes. I also have to tell the anesthesiologist that I metabolize anesthetic quicker than others. When I had my heart surgery, I had told them about this so I got a double dose of anesthetic. The surgeon told my mom that it would be several more hours before I woke up because of this and just then, the nurse came out to tell him that I was already awake. -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@... Guest guest
, Kimber, During my last ERCP, I never, ever went to sleep -- in fact I squirmed and made as much noise as I could and them kept giving me more Versed, but to no avail. That little tube really feels like a 5 in lead pipe when you're not asleep. I even heard everything the doctors said. There were 10 people in this room and they got all excited when they finally got a picture of my chronic pancreatitis -- they clapped. That's when I stated crying and choking. When they finally took the tube out -- I asked Dr. Eng (gasto) how much anesthesia they gave me -- he said enought for all the people in the room. I told him that obviously the anesthesia did not work and also told him what I heard and I WILL NEVER DO THIS AGAIN, so he'd better have gotten what he wanted. It was a nightmare. I feel all your pain. Kathie

Guest guest
It must be a thing with those of us who have such a high tolerance to pain meds. I have awaken during two of my ERCPs. Now, as a result, my doc is going to put me totally under for my next ERCP. He admitted that it was just too hard on me to try and do it the regular way. Maybe your doctor will do the same. Won't hurt asking. mkkspcl@... wrote:, Kimber, During my last ERCP, I never, ever went to sleep -- in fact I squirmed and made as much noise as I could and them kept giving me more Versed, but to no avail. Guest guest
Kathie, I don't blame you for never wanting to do the ERCP ever again. They would never have gotten the tube down my throat if I had been awake the whole time. You are one very brave lady. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@...
