Guest guest
My name is Nigel Paris and as some of you are aware I have been trying to profit from rosacea by selling a discovery I've made as to the cure for rosacea. I have decided that I can no longer keep this information from you. I have found that rosacea is connected with another condition called Body Dysmorphic Disorder. The treatment for this condition is a high dose of an SSRI, Selective seritonin re-uptake inhibiter. I'm sure most of you have experienced the ignorence surrounding rosacea and it's diagnosis, well I was diagnosed with BDD and was prescribed the relevent medication for this condition(SSRI),the rosacea at this stage was not so obvious hence the mis-diagnosis. Anyway I took the medication and my rosacea went completely within a year and significantley improved by the eighth week of treatment. Again to cut a long story short I stopped the medication and the rosacea came back, it was at this point I realised the conection and started the medication again and yes the rosacea went!!!!! I'm certain that if you do some resurch for yourself you will see the connection too. I truly hope this knowledge is not dismissed out of hand and is investigated by yourself further. Try looking at BDD web-site by A . Look for a book called " The Broken Mirror " If you have any queries, and I guess you will, then please contact me; scat_oxford@... or my mobile no is 07810283526 Very best of luck, Nigel

Guest guest
The poster here is referring to a psychological -- not dermatologic -- condition: dysmorphophobia, or body dysmorphic disorder. It's not unusual to momentary succumb: the pimple that we're certain everyone at the party experiences as hideously as we do; the wrinkle on the face that defines our entire appearance; the extra pound that makes us feel we look like Minnesota Fats. The normal variances of human anatomy, the relative unimportance of one's appearance beyond selected (as opposed to most) business and social situations -- all these unwittingly evade the person suffering from BDD. In a quest to repair that which isn't seriously broken, plastic surgery (especially derm procedures) is often used. suffers from dymorphophobia -- even vitiligo cannot explain why he underwent all he did to his face, though it may in his mind. For more on dysmorphophia, http://www.emedicine.com/derm/topic623.htm, looks like a reasonable introduction. No doubt, there are people with rosacea who suffer from BDD. They imagine their flushing and phymas as grotesquely disfiguring, and those physicians who don't reflect that distortion back to them are viewed as trivializing their condition, or lying, or incompetent. These rosaceans freak with every new spider on their face, any evidence of redness, every flare to them is a source of deep mental torment. They find other rosaceans suffering from BDDs and support each other's distortions. But understand, they aren't deliberately exaggerating or victimizing themselves for advantage -- they truly experience themselves as grossly abnormal and in need of immediate, major medical intervention. And there's a practical problem: the more procedures they undergo and serious treatments they try to rid themselves of what they experience as horrible signs and symptoms, the more likely they are to suffer from the procedures/treatments side effects and so make everything worse. The poster brings up an important point: BDD -- while difficult to treat because most sufferers don't believe they are experiencing any distortion -- can respond to SSRIs, ideally with counselling. And that response can be experienced as a treatment for rosacea itself. I agree this should not be dismissed out of hand, but it's also important not to overdiagnose onself. cea is a real skin condition, and lends itself to many psychological distresses besides BDD. For example, last month some people brought up how their depression made their rosacea loom large in their lives, and as their depression lifted with medication they found themselves free from their rosacea as well. Although those with BDD are not primarily depressed, response to treatment can feel as liberating. And then there's the typical stuff that humans are made of. A bad day with one's skin, just as a bad hair day, is a transient experience for all people with skin and hair. Psychodermatology addresses many of the more common psychological issues related to, or caused by, skin conditions, and I would think is a better place to start than to jump into BDD. (For a very general overview, see http://www.aafp.org/afp/20011201/1873.html.) Talking with loved ones is another good place to start, to receive honest and reliable feedback (although be aware that some people are overly sensitive or blind to other people's appearances, so you may want to check with more than one loved one. ) Marjorie Marjorie Lazoff, MD > My name is Nigel Paris and as some of you are aware I have been > trying to profit from rosacea by selling a discovery I've made as to > the cure for rosacea. > I have decided that I can no longer keep this information from you. > > I have found that rosacea is connected with another condition called > Body Dysmorphic Disorder. The treatment for this condition is a high > dose of an SSRI, Selective seritonin re-uptake inhibiter. > > I'm sure most of you have experienced the ignorence surrounding > rosacea and it's diagnosis, well I was diagnosed with BDD and was > prescribed the relevent medication for this condition(SSRI),the > rosacea at this stage was not so obvious hence the mis-diagnosis. > Anyway I took the medication and my rosacea went completely within a > year and significantley improved by the eighth week of treatment. > > Again to cut a long story short I stopped the medication and the > rosacea came back, it was at this point I realised the conection and > started the medication again and yes the rosacea went!!!!! > > I'm certain that if you do some resurch for yourself you will see > the > connection too. > I truly hope this knowledge is not dismissed out of hand and is > investigated by yourself further. > Try looking at BDD web-site by A . Guest guest
So, if the person was cured of the rosacea, or treated by a terrific result of low dose accutane, and shown a comparison of other people's skin, and proven that his skin was in much better shape than 90% of other people, in that he did not have any pustules, comedones, and redness was barely discernable, wouldn't that be better than going on SSRI's and psychotherapy? The accutane can work in a matter of months -- you can be in therapy forever! > > My name is Nigel Paris and as some of you are aware I have been > > trying to profit from rosacea by selling a discovery I've made as > to > > the cure for rosacea. > > I have decided that I can no longer keep this information from you. > > > > I have found that rosacea is connected with another condition > called > > Body Dysmorphic Disorder. The treatment for this condition is a high > > dose of an SSRI, Selective seritonin re-uptake inhibiter. > > > > I'm sure most of you have experienced the ignorence surrounding > > rosacea and it's diagnosis, well I was diagnosed with BDD and was > > prescribed the relevent medication for this condition(SSRI),the > > rosacea at this stage was not so obvious hence the mis-diagnosis. > > Anyway I took the medication and my rosacea went completely within > a > > year and significantley improved by the eighth week of treatment. > > > > Again to cut a long story short I stopped the medication and the > > rosacea came back, it was at this point I realised the conection > and > > started the medication again and yes the rosacea went!!!!! > > > > I'm certain that if you do some resurch for yourself you will see > > the > > connection too. > > I truly hope this knowledge is not dismissed out of hand and is > > investigated by yourself further. > > Try looking at BDD web-site by A . Guest guest
007, unfortunately, a person suffering from BDD doesn't respond to comparisons, logic, or " proofs. " It's a psychological disorder. Also, the counselling isn't psychotherapy. The counselling that ideally accompanies SSRIs is a combination of supportive and behavioral. Guest guest
Nigel, Respectfully, I can see why it wasn't easy to sell your theory. I have taken ssri's, as have many others on this list, and don't in any way feel " cured. " If I did I probably would not be on this list. I'm happy you are doing better, though the idea that you want to " profit from rosacea " is a bit questionable. There may well be a connection between BDD and rosacea. Also, there may be a distinct physiological connection between serotonin and rosacea; that's something I've been asking about recently here, and unfortunately there seems to be no work done on it yet. I agree with you that these would be good things for researchers to study. Guest guest
Nigel, I am very interested in your theory. I myself am pre occupied by my appearence, and have been on SEROXAT for 1 year, I also have cea, and have had it for 20 odd years. I'm 39 now. My 20mg dose of Seroxat probably needs looking at, cause I still feel bad about my appearence, but I can't help but notice that my cea, is slightly more under control. When I tell peopole I've got cea, I have to explain them what it is, cause they say my skin isn't that bad. I do have all the usuall triggers, so I'm not saying it's in any way cured. It's just that, a resultant of BDD could be that the Rocacea is accentuated in some peoples own body image. Finally, curing BDD will not necessarily cure the cea, but give the individual the correct perspective on what they actually look like, and what they actually look like.
Guest guest
It's human nature to want to find a " cure " for our suffering, or at the very least pinpoint a universal causative factor. Through the years I have read, sometimes with a giddy feeling akin to amusement, about theories that vary from seemingly reasonable to impossibly stupid. Some great postulator, after patiently explaining to the eager red masses what the cause of cea is, will let us in on the cure. That's why we are occasionally treated to some character who writes something along the lines of: " …and so I reached the logical conclusion that mutant dermal mites are the cause of cea. I'm convinced that a vaccine I am developing in my Acme Home Lab will cure cea. I suspect that the medical community is already aware of a dermal mite vaccine, but they're making so much money treating cea rather than curing it... " Or: " I no longer eat processed carbs and now my cea is cured. If every cean out there followed my lead, they would be cured. I graciously accept your anticipated thanks for my telling you this. " And now we have Body Dysmorphic Disorder along with SSRI, Selective seritonin re-uptake inhibiter. Eureka! Who would have thunk it?! It's reached the point where I halfway expect someday to read: " ..And after I came out of hypnosis, the hypnotist told me that I had witnessed Fluffy hit by a car when I was a child. After he helped me work through my feelings of forgotten grief and terror, my cea was cured. If every cean went through hypnosis, they would discover some repressed trauma which they could then resolve and cure their cea. " I just hope, when that day comes, this helpful humanitarian doesn't get all wily and greedy and post something like: " I have discovered the cure for cea. Send me $10 and a SSAE and I will let you have it. " I hope that's not what you were doing, Mr. Paris. Jillian
