Guest guest
I haven't followed the bacon thread. However, in my copy of BTVC, Elaine says " However, for those people who cannot get their meat smoked without sugar, ordinary smoked bacon may be eaten once a week if it is fried very crisply. " My son and I have a big problem with pork and we have not been able to find turkey/beef bacon without sugar and nitrates, so we use Wellshire Farms beef bacon a few times a month. I am confused because my DAN dr. told me that I could buy bacon w/o nitrates that had sugar, because most if not all of the sugar cooks out of it when you cook it. Thus, my daughter has been getting bacon almost every day! Is it not true that the sugar cooks out? Thanks, Jill For information on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, please read the book _Breaking the Vicious Cycle_ by Elaine Gottschall and read the following websites: http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info and http://www.pecanbread.com

You can buy it on their website (along with a lot of other products), but we get it at the local WF. It does have cane and maple sugar, but no nitrates/nitrites. We have had no problems with it (he's a reeeaallly sensative kid), but I also did not give it to him right off the bat on SCD either. BTVC does say " once a week fried crisply " on the bacon q. -christine
