The nurse who took the blood didn't know. I didn't have breakfast before I went so that made it 14 hours since I'd eaten. Then I realised that most of the problems and pain is after we eat so maybe it would give a truer result if I had eaten. Just wondering. In fact I never done the test during bad bout, I using became so sick, I was not able to go anywhere. About fasting, I always do the amylase blood test without eating for at least 8 hours, according the lab. My doctor gave me a blood test form to have amylase and liver blood tests 12 to 24 hours after the onset of pain. My question is, how bad does the pain have to be. Since I had my gallbladder removed, the pain sessions aren't as agonising as they used to be. The last couple of days my mid abdomen really hurts but it's not debilitating. Guest guest Posted June 4, 2002 Report Share Posted June 4, 2002 The one thing they don't tell you is that if your triglycerides are high it will hide the a & l results - I was not aware of this until one afternoon in the smoking hut at the hospital I happened to strike up a conversation with one of the lab techs who told me that supposedly there is something that will correct this so that the test will be more accurate but it doesn't work so why bother (See smoking can be educational!)
