Guest guest
Hi Cindy, Emu oil is made from the fat of the emu. Yes, the emu has to die in order for this to happen. Not pleasant, I know... (Hey, maybe they should try liposuction!) ;] Mineral oil is derived from a mineral source such as petroleum. There is disagreement as to whether it's really bad (ie, comedogenic) for skin. Here's a link to an article that compared the use of emu and mineral oils: http://www.gentleridge.com/moisturizing.html Hope this is helpful! > Hello group, > Why is Emu oil that comes with the A/R creme supposed to > be good for your skin and mineral oil makes it break out? Guest guest
Oils and other ingredients we put on our skin are not a " one size fits all " option. That's one of the main frustrations of rosacea. What gives me a flare soothes your skin tremendously. Just reading through all the messages in our archives you can really see that. Scientists don't know the answer to that one, and neither does Dr. Nase nor Dr. Sy. It's a very complex puzzle that varies from person to person. The only way to see what works for you is to test a product out, and see what it does on your skin. Mineral oil and emu oil could be ok or it could cause flares. You just have to see what works for you. Take care, Matija > > Hello group, > > Why is Emu oil that comes with the A/R creme supposed > to > > be good for your skin and mineral oil makes it break out? Guest guest
One caveat I have followed since having been dx with cea is to always test products out thoroughly. It's best to do it as cheaply as possibly and always get free samples if you can. Our skin is not like the average person's. We can't just pick and choose what we want; our skin usually tells us if something works or not. Therefore, manufacturers of products who gear their products towards rosaceans should keep in mind that we need free or low cost samples. If the product works, I'm usually more than happy to buy lots of the product. If it doesn't, I don't feel ill will towards the company because I know they have great customer service and will recommend them to others who want to try out their products. Each of us reacts to different products. It is very important to keep that in mind when we test various items. What works for me, may cause a bad reaction in you. Hope that helps! Guest guest
---I agree. I felt guilty when I tried the Emu oil. Thank goodness my skin likes the jojoba oil better. .. FREE THE EMUS! > > > > >
