Guest guest
I thought it was right here that I read that if you use HCL and your body doesn't need it, you could actually cause your stomach lining to thin and ultimately that would mean ulcers. Am I wrong about this information? I wish I could remember where I heard this, just recently.
Guest guest
Ive had a similar experience as Suzi - I had lots of GI problems, lower intestinal cramping, heartburn, but my doctor suggested HCL since evidently heartburn isn't always because you are too acidic - what happens is you don't digest the food so well (either because of low stomach acid, or food intolerance) and then the food sits in your stomach and ferments and then your stomach becomes acidic that way - but its uncomfortable, and you wouldn't be eating right then anyway - it goes away after a while and you are left with the not so acidic stomach that can't digest so well. I took HCL and enzymes for the month that I cut out everything but rice and potatoes in a desperate attempt to figure out why I couldn't digest anything. It helped a lot - got rid of that too-full feeling I was having after meals, and I could go to sleep less than an hour after eating a little bit without getting heartburn. As my stomach healed, I guess, I stopped needing it, and I started adding things back in. Though I am still unable to eat wheat or dairy without problems, which makes me think that they might have caused the problems in the first place. When my stomach problems were at their worst, so was my rosacea, I was very ruddy, lots of papules on my cheeks. It didn't help my GI issues to be prescribed antibiotics, but it did help the rosacea. Now, I just use sulfacet occasionally, but don't flush anymore. Im getting full allergy testing soon, so Ill hopefully find out what is really going on. Guest guest
how do you know whether you should drink cider vinegar or not? thanks HCL > I owe the group a correction. To raise HCL you can > drink 1-2 tsps of apple cider vinegar in a glass of > water with a little honey or maple syrup (1 tsp) to > sweeten. Drink 15-30 minutes before meals, 2x daily. > > The honey is NOT instead of the vinegar. > > I got this screwed up, but went back and checked my > notes after getting an email today from someone who > adds honey to the vinegar water. > > Makes a lot more sense this way, and taste much better > too! Guest guest
Sorry, . HCl is hydrochloric acid. The type I take is betaine hydrochloride (I think it's -ide). I believe this is the most standard variety. Hmm, not sure why bromelain should make C worse! Offhand it sounds illogical but many of us have strange reactions to this or that. But the HCl is what replaces low (or in my case, non-existent) hydrochloric acid production in the stomach. Bromelain is not the same thing. If you do try the HCl, I read somewhere (maybe here on the board) that sometimes taking it at the end of the meal is better than before. Me, I try to bury all my supplements with my meal sort of in layers. Food, pill, food, etc. Thanks for the tip. What are HCI capsules. I'm taking Bromelain but suspect it worsens my C. problems. Sigh! It just never ends...
