Guest guest
Hello everyone, my name is Chrissy, I'm 29 years old and finally went to the dermatologist today and was diagnosed with rosacea, but I have had the symptoms for a few years. So I am reading the brochures she has given me and just right now trying to learn more about it. My question is, what does everyone wash their face with?? I have read cetaphil is good?? Right now I am just using the neutrogina fragrance free face wash. My doctor has prescribed me " Metrocream " I am to try this for 2 months and see her again. And also what face lotion do you all use?? Once again, I have read cetaphil products are good?? And women, do you wear makeup?? I can only wear Almay, fragrance free, and even then, my face itches some. I had another question, but cannot think of it, I'll think of it later. Bye for now!! Guest guest
Highly successful for most with rosacea: to wash face: oil of olay foaming facewash for sensitive skin (make sure it's the one for sensitive skin) Get at any drug or grocery store. lotion: Tinted ZincO - www.lindasy.com (it's also a physical sunblock) powder/face makeup: amazing base by jane iredale - www.estheticsnw.com Yellow (not pink) undertone collors are best for us. It neutralizes the red. Good luck! Hi Chrissy-- Welcome to the group! To answer your questions: I use Basis Soap for Sensitive Skin (bar) to wash. Been using it for a long, long time now (since I was a teen-ager), and no matter what else I try, I always end up going back to this product. However, I've been a tester for Dr. Sy's new colloidal oatmeal-based cleanser, and I really like it! It's not available yet b/c she's still perfecting the formulation. You should check out some of her products. I didn't like the Cetaphil line. As a moisturizer, right now I'm using Super Rich Moisturizing Cream from Purple Emu Ltd. I'm a big fan of it. I've also used moisturizing oils such as emu, jojoba, and Dr. Sy's Vita-Oil, but I needed something a little more powerful for the winter months. I don't really wear make-up, but I do use another Sy product called Zinc-O. It's a tinted sunscreen. It works very well to even out the red, blotchy appearance of rosacea. I've tried the Jane Iredale loose powder, but found it a bit irritating and quite drying. These are only one person's suggestions--I'm sure others will offer you some additional options. Because rosacea is really a syndrome of sorts, a set of symptoms, not everyone's variety of the condition is the same. Therefore, we all respond differently to different products. So don't be discouraged if one person sings the praises of a particular product, and it ends up not working well for you. Use what you feel most comfortable using. Take care and best of luck to you-- __________________________________________________

Are you referring to the product that's called " Liquid Neutrogena, " unscented formula? That's what I was using when I was first diagnosed with rosacea, and I definitely think it was making my face redder, because it was very drying. My fave cleanser for winter is the Gentle Cleansing Bar by Neutrogena (it's a white, opaque bar - not clear like the other Neutrogena soaps. My favorite for summer, when I require something a bit stronger, is Sy's superfatted soap for normal-to-dry skin (available at www.lindasy.com). Regarding the use of moisturizer, if you're using MetroCream you may find you don't need one - esp. if your skin is oily by nature. I found the MetroCream heavy enough that I stopped using moisturizer. April
Guest guest
Hi Chrissy, If you are interested in some skincare that is very gentle, you may want to check out New York's Calm & Correct line. They make a cleanser and a serum that is supposed to be good for rosacea skin. Neither the cleanser nor the serum contain alcohol. I have tried the cleanser and it is VERY gentle. I have been only using them for a few days, but I bought them because I was experiencing a lot of irritation. The cleanser also contains some sulfur which can be beneficial to our skin (actually the only thing that has cleared the papules on my forehead is Clearasil for Adults which contains 8% sulfur and NO benzoil peroxide). Metrogel did nothing for me nor did Noritate. http://www.joeynewyork.com http://www.sephora.com As for makeup, Dr. Sy has recommended mineral makeup. This type of makeup is great for the skin and has a very small chance of causing an allergic reaction. Philosophy makes one called Cover Me which contains Zinc Oxide, and according to Dr.Nase, is great for rosacea skin (can buy at drugstore.com or Nordstom). Also, Bare Escentuals makes mineral makeup. Mineral makeups also tend to have GREAT coverage (I am a makeup artist and have tried everything). There may be a Bare Escentuals store in your local mall (http://www.bareescentuals.com/). Also, if you type mineral makeup into a search engine, you will find all sorts of brands....try http://www.rockmemakeup.com/ or http://www.janeiredale.com/ She has a great section on why mineral makeup is awesome for irritated skin! Hope this helps. I tend to be better at the makeup part than the skin part. I thought I only had sensitive skin in the past and was forced to realize that I had rosacea. Oh yeah, you asked about moisturizer....definitely try Jojoba Oil. Even though it is an oil, it will not clog your pores and actually helps with cleaning them out: http://www.ageless.co.za/herb-jojoba.htm Good Luck, Michele New to group. >Date: Mon, 19 Nov 2001 23:49:28 -0600 > >Hello everyone, my name is Chrissy, I'm 29 years old and finally went to >the dermatologist today and was diagnosed with rosacea, but I have had the >symptoms for a few years. Guest guest
The phrase " failure to thrive " is often used in the description of CF children not dx soon after birth. For that apparently has now happened around age 5, for our that occured at 20 months of age. The malabsorption problem is combated with pancreatic enzymes, which concerns me that you don't mention them in your introduction. And I have no personal experience with the Canadian (London, Ontario = Canada I hope) health care system, but I have read several scary stories about CF families trying to cope with the health care system there. Have you been able to ask about and obtain enzymes for ? Perhaps that may be a pretty high priority for you. Best wishes for The Kell Family.
