Guest guest
The chicken and beef ones used to not have any listed illegals either... and we did use them as a family, though of course it's a personal choice and not considered an approved SCD product. The beef and chicken now have evaporated cane juice in them, but not the turkey - but my kids don't like the turkey ones. Before the other two products had the cane juice in them, my kids did tolerate them well. I would assume the same would be for the turkey ones if they would only eat them! Guest guest
Robbie, So what makes these hotdogs illegal then? Elaine’s book says if you can find hotdogs without illegal ingredients then they could be used. Just trying hard to keep them:-)! Guest guest
Many people have used the Applegate Farms hotdogs. I think we all got a little leary when they replaced the honey with cane juice. I thought they were switching back to honey. Maybe someone would be willing to contact them and get the information in writing on company letterhead from them. That's the major downfall to actually putting a store-bought product on the " legal " list: companies change the ingredients and sometimes the change happens before new labels are printed. But to find out the current status of the ingredients, someone will need to contact them. Jody mom to -7 and -9 SCD 1/

The reply from Applegate is in message# 4029 on her board. I will ask if it is okay to forward. -christine

Guest guest
" is in message# 4029 on her board. " 4029 is a message about Rolex watches... I'll use the search engine and see if I can find it. It will have to be a recent contact with them because the formula change was late summer/early fall I believe. Guest guest
I called Applegate farms about the Turkey hotdogs and they said they have removed all sugars and the cane juice was replaced with celery juice. Lactic Acid is what I do not know about. They are sending me an email containing all the ingredients which I will post later. Any replies? Guest guest
I just checked Karyn's board. It was 4209, not 4029, no big deal because I found it. The reply she got wasn't really what I would need to say that the product is okay again because at that point they were still referring to changing the product " in the future " . I don't know if they've done that or not. An e-mail is not the same as something written on paper. If you have the toll free number handy, I'll call them and ask them to send the information that I need directly to my home address. I did not mean to imply that she'd gotten an " okay " from the company; just that she'd written them about the product ingredients. And apparently she was not the first person they had heard from, lol! So, my point is that the company DOES appear to listen to its consumers; so perhaps anyone concerned would want to write/call with their opinions. > > An e-mail is not the same as something written on paper. I can't do it just now, but can look up later if you'd like. Sorry again for the mix-up re #'s. -christine
Guest guest
I know people are leery of claiming a processed food is 'legal' since there are so many variables we don't know - like what other products they process on the same equipment, if any ingredients change before labels change, etc... that's all. Like I said, we tried them and were fine with them but there are some that wouldn't want to chance it and I don't think they would be considered officially 'legal'. Arby's roast beef is supposed to only be beef, water and salt - that's from their website and from the company who replied to me via email. There are probably many who would be leery but when we're desperate and need food on the run, I do go to Arbys. *grin* Robbie Applegate Farms Turkey Hotdogs > Anyone have a reason why these hotdogs are illegal for SCD?
