Guest guest
Tracey, When Elliot gets a cough we go within 5 days to clinic. A cough that disrupts her sleep should be looked at right away.....in my opinion., specially because she is not a cougher. Have you seen you peditrican to rule out anything???Trust your instincts..if you are worried call right away. Guest guest
Dear , Have they tried having her use the vest., especially at night .My granddaughter did this and she does sleep better . It kinda looses anything -if there, up and there for doesn't " tickle " all night. I do realize al are so different, it is just that ERIN is very well and this seems to help her less en coughing. Just a weak thought. Best wishes. I know you'll get lots of ideas & suggestions from all these folks who have been there and done that :) LOVE & HUGS, grandmomBEV coughing Hello, I have been a lurker off and on for a while and have received great information from this list. Now I have a Question. I have two girls with CF. 5 and 8 months old. My five year old has had more intestinal involvement than lung involvement. She was born emergency c-section at 32 weeks with sever meconium ilius. Recently she has developed a cough, the kind that keeps her up all night. she is on zopinex treatments twice daily and robitussin, she still coughs and coughs but never can bring anything up (mucus). I mention this to the clinic in a phone call of concern about three weeks ago. she is schedule for a x-ray and blood work next month. how concern should I be? should I be more aggressive in treatments or what? I have more experience and can handle intestinal problems but I freak out when the lungs become involved. should I call the clinic back and say nothings working I want the x-ray sooner? She has no other symptoms only a cough. she had a throat culture last clinic visit it was negative. what have you experienced with coughing? please tell me your stories. Thanks Tracey
Guest guest
Tracey--how about a lung CAT or EBCT scan of her lungs, or an MRI? What they would be looking for would be interstitial scarring and/or bronchiectasis--permanent scarring. Just a thought, n
Guest guest
I'd definitely get it checked out. My daughter was a horrible night cougher until we put her on a steroid puffer and ventolin. This made the occurance less and antibiotics cleared it up completely (Biaxin and Keflex). So, it could be cf related asthma and/or a bug. It is really importnat to get it looked into. If it is asthma, it won't get any better until the inflammation is dealt with. If it is a bug, it needs to be dealt with so that no permanent lung damage is done. A third possibility is post-nasal drip, which usually give a croupy sounding cough and can also be treated. I hope they find a resolution quickly, I've been through a year of this and it is exhausting for all and a blessed relief when it is resolved. Guest guest
Hello, My son goes through coughing stages he has a nasal spray rhinocourt. When he coughs you can tell its drainage from his nose. When he goes through this it is all night long. I keep his bed elavated all the time with pillows under the mattress. See if that helps. I'd ask at the clinic if its alllergies and see if it sounds like its stuff from his nose rather than chest. coughing > Hello, > I have been a lurker off and on for a while and have received great information from this list. > Now I have a Question. > I have two girls with CF. 5 and 8 months old. Guest guest
I would be more agressive if it is causing her to lose sleep. I would have her put on an antibiotic now. No sleep on top of not feeling well, just leads to feeling worse. That is my humble mommy opinion any way. Guest guest
-hi no I don't think it is odd Wyatt is 2 and doesn't cough on a regular basis either. He only coughs when he has a cold or an infection of some sort. We also had him get the chicken pox and the pseudo vaccine and he hasn't had an episode in a year. He also is starting to have GI problems and we are trying to rectify them now. He is on Colyte and and we have cut back on the dairy products as much as possible. We have also found that any citrus fruit helps keep him moving ( bowels). And that swimming in a clorine pool really keeps his lungs clear. I hope that everything works out for you.
