Guest guest
Maybe someone in the medical/health/science community can give some insight here...I apologize for the length of this, but i think the subject is worthy of consideration, esp. with the with the recent rising interest here in B5 supplementation. Over the last several months, people have posted getting good results reducing their oily skin with usually between 4-6 grams of pantothenic acid/B5, and sometimes as much as 10 grams. The product I found is from the Vitamin Shoppe, which suggests taking a dosage of ONE 500mg capsule daily--which is equivilant to 5000% of the daily value. I'am concerned about just taking 6-8 of these pills (=30,000% to 40,000% of the daily value?), w/o knowing of any possible unforseen consequences... In my own research into nutrient toxicity/adverse health effects from a high intake of a particular vitamin/mineral (on NIH's website listed below) I found an " upper tolerable intake level " (UL) for many vit.'s/min's--for example too much B6 causes nerve damage to the arms & legs, and the UL for B6 is as low as 100 milligrams! The UL for vit.A is 3000 MICROgrams, the UL for B12 for adults is only 2.4 MICROgrams...almost all of the vit.s/min.s discussed posed some SERIOUS adverse health effects when supplemented over the reccommended amount--see link below. I couldnt find this information listed on the website/links for B5/pantothenic acid, and no one here has brought up the subject (to my knowledge)--so I wondered What the " safe " upper level dosage of B5 would be (mg? grams?)... both a CVS pharmacist and a pharmacist from my insurance company (Blue Cross) had trouble finding VERY little information on this supplement AT ALL, other than telling me that the recommended daily intake is *4-7 MILLIgrams*! I know w/ supplements not being regulated by FDA there is limited info. etc...and I'm no expert, but I would like some more information before taking ~6X the recommended dosage printed on the bottle, (or 30,000% of the daily value) EVERY DAY... Someone had posted that the only negative side effect they could find in their research [on taking B5 in high doses] was " loose bowels " ...And many other people have posted taking B5 in high doses for some time now-- Can someone please post if/WHERE they found information (Doc? website? book?) suggesting that high of a dosage is safe (or what is the UL for B5)...or someone in the medical profession provide some insight about possible adverse health effects from supplementing daily w/ B5 in ~4-6 grams...it seems like we should know these things before running to the store and gulping down 6-8 pills a day! I would hate to think I could cause some long-term unpredictable harm to the rest of my body, just to try & control an oily complexion!! http://www.cc.nih.gov/ccc/supplements/intro.html
Guest guest
Greetings fellow sufferers, I don't agree at all with the UL for B6. I suffered from carpal tunnel pain up to my elbows and was in wrist braces. I went to my naturopath and he said that 100% of the people who suffer from carpal tunnel have a B6 deficiency. He put me on 250 milligrams a day of B6. After only 3 days, I had no more pain. I took that dosage for a couple of years. I went to my favorite local health food store and the owner was telling me about an article, which he couldn't find anymore, that was in a magazine a few years ago, which said that you could cure a B6 deficiency my taking 400 milligrams of B6 for 30 days. I tried it and I no longer take B6 supplements and have not suffered from carpal tunnel for about 5 years. I work on computers for 10 hours a day and then at least another hour at home after work, and on weekends. The acne part of my cea has cleared up since I started taking a supplement call HGH Release. I was told that it helps the skin to look younger but I had no idea that it would clear up my acne. I don't ever intend to stop taking it. Now I'm working on the red face.
