Any advise on finding a specialist in SoCal?

I am proud of you. Nobody needs to put off getting help when involved

in the early stages of this disease. I did a search for you. The

first two seems to be closer to you. Sometimes closer is not always

the best. I live in S.C. and can not tell you who is the best but

Hope this helps and you get the help you need. The hospital should

have set you up with a doctor during your visit. Your numbers may not

be telling the story. Sometimes they can be low and you still have

pancreatitis. Not very long ago I went to the hospital for

pancreatitis after waiting a fews days. My numbers were low but my

sugar was going through the roof. It was near the 500 range and I had

not eaten very much for the last few days. They ended up getting my

sugar down and let me go because of them other low numbers. Your

white blood cells should tell the story. The pancreatitis can drive

your sugar level sky high. It also can mess with your blood pressure

driving it high. How old are you and what type of work do you do and

what do you do after work? These things can also make a difference.

You have all the " right " signs, I'm pleased to hear that you are addressing

it now rather than later - you will be very glad that you did. Please follow

through.

Mine started with an acute attack. Ignored. Over the years, I developed

GERD, HBP, Esophageal cysts, varices, bleeding, what appeared to be gall

bladder attacks, Diabetes, unexplained and continuous stomach pain that was

excruciating, bouts with constipation/diahrreah (painfully offensive), etc...

But my doctor refused to believe me when I told him it HAD to be related to

my pancreas. My numbers (A & L's) were never high enough at the right time.

I wish I knew then what I know now, but how could I? I'd certainly not found

this group yet, nor the education that comes along with it during all this,

so I was completely reliant on what my trusted doctor told me.

At one point I did strike out to see a more informed doctor, but after three

visits my ins. co. told me that they were mistaken, and that he was NOT

covered (nor were my visits nor any of my lab tests at the two various

hospitals they had sent me to) and that I had to go back to my previous PCP.

What a shame - I think that cost me about another six years worth of damage

to my pancreas under the guise of " heartburn " and stress. Of COURSE I

wouldn't go through it again, but when you don't know, you just don't know...

It's a shame we can't spread the word about this horrible disease faster and

more accurately than we're able to, in order to save more and more people

from years of needless suffering and irreversible physiological damage, but

we can't in most cases... the good news is - YOU know now. You are armed

with the truth about what is happening in your body, and you are armed with

the knowledge you need to do the right thing while you still have a chance

to. I hope that you will.

You owe it to yourself, and you owe it to all those people out there - in the

millions surely - who don't and won't ever have this chance that you have

been given. The chance to make some changes and still live a healthy and

full life while you still have the chance to, rather than ignoring the

obvious and becoming just another statistic. I hope for you the courage to

do what you know you must do, and decent medical care to get you there.
