Guest guest
Hi everyone, I'm new to this group. I was diagnosed with cea after the birth of my son 15 years ago. I've managed to keep it under control, and once I learned my main triggers I've been doing ok. This past year however, I've had an increase in symptoms and am setting up a new appointment with my dermatologist. One thing I have that I don't know is even assocaiated with my rosacea is a sort of " chapped lips " feeling. My lips are extremely irritated, dry, flaking, burning and even sometimes feeling as if I have coldsores all around the very edges. I've tried every over the counter treatment I could find, including neosporin without any luck. Is this something I should bring to the attention of the doctor, or is this something that is totally not associated with my other cea symptoms? Any insights anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated!
Guest guest
, I think this is something you should bring to your doctor's attention. You didn't say what your triggers are, but you are describing something that could be a (rather dangerous) allergy symptom. Much of what gets called " triggers " by the NRS, etc. are classic allergies to food, cosmetics, environmental substances, etc. I was diagnosed with rosacea and it turned out to be a food allergy. While I wouldn't say my lips were chapped, I had sore, itchy, cracking patchs at the corner, and small itchy bumps would appear around my mouth. I also got a lot of canker sores in my mouth (not cold sores). The way I look at it is this: Just because food allergies clearly caused my rosacea, it doesn't mean I don't have rosacea. I figure I just have an allergy-induced version. To the best of my research, rosacea is a description of symptoms, not a disease unto itself. I have a lot of posts in the archives on the rosacea-allergy connection. You might find them interesting. You might also do some web research on food allergy symptoms and see if you find a description similar to your lips (I'm guessing you will). Guest guest
I have burning around my lips too and they always seem to be redder than other people. I dont have to wear lip stick but look like I do. I get relief after photoderm treatments but it always wears off. >From: hollandk@... >To: rosacea-support >Subject: lips >Date: Fri, 30 Nov 2001 14:44:16 -0000 > >Hi everyone, > >I'm new to this group. ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS. I cannot say enough good things about them. Check the archives for old posts. There are many different kinds, but choose a supplement that combines Omega 3 6 and 9 for maximum effect. This is the number one treatment for healing dry skin from the " inside out " . Which in my opinion is the most important. I've increased my intake to almost 2 tablespoons per day. Rather than cause me to gain weight, they have actually helped me LOOSE bodyfat. Also, I've found using pure emu oil products on both my hands and lips to be a lifesaver. Kent
