Guest guest
Dear Mirella, Thanks again for your answer. We feel reassured. I've found more information on a italian web site about the mask (www.fibrosisticatoscana.org) and as you discribe, it seems easy to use. WE are a bit worried to use the mask and it's time to explain to you why. Nobody is using this mask in our country (Canada), no physio has experience with it and probably every doctor or so are convinced that Pep therapy cannot be use on a child under 5 or 6 years...When we got the clue about this mask and the fact that it is used by Danish cf center even on newborn, we get really excited. So, when we will finally be able to have a mask in hand (not easy to buy from here (Astratech mask I mean)), let say we will be alone with the mask...SO we are worried. WE are willing to replace clapping with Pep therapy but we want to be 100% sure to do it properly. And avoid any negative side effect. So, if you still willing to help us (we really appreciated it a lot!), here's some specific questions we still have: 1- WE know that in Denmark, they controlled mask pressure once a month. If we buy a manometer that comes with the mask, can we do it alone at home? 2- What's happening is doesnt breath " normally " By exemple, doing some short-small breathing or quickly because he's excited ? Does it have a negative effect on him?...It is not easy to explain how to breath " normally " to a very young child. 3-It is very difficult for a young infant to cough deliberately.(or to do " huffing " ). What does your physio suggest to do then? Thanks again for your help Bye and have a good day Marie-e (mother of , 1y wcf) > >> Yes, I spoke with my physioterapyst because I knew that a little > >child in the hospital room near my one was using the PEP mask; well, > >she explained me that the mask must be put on the child fase, covering > >nose and mouth, while he was sleeping. > >> The child must breathe normally, and perform some series of 12 > >breathing into the PEP and about a minute without it, for about 15 > >minutes.
