Guest guest
No problem! I got mine at the local supermarket. They aren't too expensive. I think i got a giant bottle for like 10 bucks. There was a certain dosage it was supposed to have though, something like 120-140 mg sylmarin (ok i know spelled this wrong and i am not sure if it was mg as well, but i have to wait till i get home to check the bottle and i will post again)and you should take anywhere from 2 to4 capsules daily depending on if you are using them for prevention (1 or 2) or to help a preexisting condition (3-4). Still need to research more, But I read some messages from people on another site for liver and pancreas diseases and some people wrote saying that after just weeks of taking it religiously they went to their doctors and found immense improvement in the organs where deterioration had been seen. Definitely worth looking into! > Dear Kay, > > Thank you for the heads up about the Milk Thistle. I read from a few sites, > and I'm convinced! Guest guest
Hi Folks, Can anyone refer me to any studies using milk thistle? It doesn't have to be on pancreatitis, anything gastro-intestinal will be fine. Even web sites with general info would be OK. I just don't have any background with the stuff, although it does sound promising. Thanks, Jerry/NC ************************* Re: anti oxidants-Milk Thistle
Guest guest
Hi Jerry, I didn't go very in depth in my research because there was so much to look at. I've found that askjeeves.com is a great place to go. I just typed in " milk thistle " and tons of sites came up. I'm not sure that I looked at any studies , though. A lot of the sites that show up near the top of the list tend to be online health stores selling the stuff (although it can be found at pretty much any supermarket with a pharmacy) Kay > Hi Folks, > > Can anyone refer me to any studies using milk thistle? Guest guest
HI Kay, Thanks for your input. The research I did on the internet showed that milk thistle does interfere with the break-down of some medications in the liver and can therefore increase blood levels of certain meds - that can be a dangerous situation. The report was written by the National Institute of Health. If one is taking milk thistle they should be aware of this. It is potentially life-threatening. I can dig the report back up if anyone would like. But that's enough bad news to keep me from taking milk thistle. Guest guest
Where did you find this? Also what kind of medications did it speak of? The only meds I am on besides the various antioxidants are Paxil and BuSpar which are both anti-anxiety/anti-depressants. Oh, and birth control...is there cause for concern here? Sorry, for some reason I can never find what I really need on the internet when I search (maybe too impatient? :-) Thanks....Kay > > > Hi Folks, > > > > > > Can anyone refer me to any studies using milk thistle? Guest guest
Hey Terry, Please refer to the report I uploaded. Thanks, Jerry/NC **************************************************** Re: Re: anti oxidants-Milk Thistle > Jerry, > > Did the report give you any indication as to WHAT DRUGS, or even what KINDS > of drugs can be interfered with by milk thistle? > > Thanks, > Terry in KC
Guest guest
Dear Jerry, I didn't know that you had uploaded any kind of report (from your post), and I don't know how to " refer " to it... Can you give me some idea?? I thought - from reading your post - that everything was included in your e-mail... I didn't - and don't - know how to tell that there is something else to look for altogether. This has left me very confused - is there some way to know that there is another document altogether to look to/for?? Sorry to be so dense here. Greatfully, Terry in KC PS... Perhaps if you uploaded a report, you could simply post that data in an e-mail?? I'm still left with an unanswered question, that - if you have an answer - should be simple enough to not require a " report " , I don't think... Namely - WHAT DRUGS are interfered with by milk thistle? That's my only question. I would be very greatful for the answer, if you've got it. Thank you again. << Hey Terry, Please refer to the report I uploaded.
