I usually take 2 x 400 iu daily. Iguess I can only use the capsules on my

May I make a request? Would listmembers who will be seeing one

of the famous and good mito docs in the near future ask this question of

him or her?

I haven't talked to anyone about Vitamin E since the new warnings came out,

but

when I saw my mito doctor last year, he was concerned b/c I was on a high

amount of CoQ10 and the amount of Vitamin E totaled over 2000 IU a day. Thus, I

had to stop that particular brand of CoQ10. I actually spoke to Raj,

Tishcon's president, about Vitamin E and CoQ10 and he said he would not

recommend

Vitamin E amounts in excess of 1200 IU/day. At doses higher than that Vit. E

can actually inhibit CoQ10 absorption, according to him.

Ruth,

Last year when my son started taking the carniqgel I asked the mito doc we have

about this. Each softgel has 75 IU and he takes 3 a day. He said that the 225

was no problem at all, he said a lot of people take 400 IU daily. My son

weighed 95 lbs at the time. Other than that, I do not know.

Vitamin E

I am seeing a lot on the internet news about Vitamin E in megadoses being

bad rather than good. It is part of the cocktail ordered for me by my

Neurologist. Is anyone else taking mega doses of E and what are the doctors

saying? Should I cut it out of the cocktail? Cheers, Ruth

The recommended dosage of E is all over the place. I have watched it

for years. Usually, a dosage of 400 is considered a safe megadose by

alternative medicine. I have seen up to 800. 900 is definitely a tad

high, but I have seen it has high as 800 on some of the mito coctails.

For me, I just feel comfortable talking no more than 400-500. Some

doses of the Qgel have less E in it also. Look at the different mg of

Qgel and you will see.

Also, is not Qgel three times the equivalent of regular Q? That would

mean you are taking 1800mg of Coenzyme Q daily? Have you checked that

dose with your doc? The highest regular Q I have seen is in the

studies for parkinson, where they give as much as 1200 regular Q.

Please understand, I am only giving my thoughts on what I remember

reading. Your doses could be just fine.

Regards

Sunny

Dear Malisa,

Thanks very much for your help. I am glad that Mr. (Dr.?) Chopra is

already aware of the possible problems with high doses of Vitamin E.

I guess we have to try to find out what the optimum dose is, if there is

such a thing!

Gratefully,

S.

Dear Sunny,

Thanks for pointing all of this out. Yes, if one believes the literature

from Tishcon, one can then take a smaller dose of CoQ10 than what a

doctor ordered.

In reality, because of the expense and because of its touted superior

bioavailability, I usually only take 400mg of the Tishcon Q-gel. This

would then yield " only " 600 IU's of Vitamin E.

However, because of my recent muscle bx, and because I was off

supplements for six weeks, I have been taking the full amount now for a

week. Three weeks into my stopping CoQ10 and Carnitor, I started having

very nasty symptoms returning. At least I proved to myself that it's

worth taking these products.

Thanks for your help.

Sincerely,

S.
