Hello-I am currently 13 weeks pregnant with a very short cervix, less than an inch. I went in for a cerclage yesterday, and they were planning on doing a transabdominal, but they found a very large fibriod tumor in my uterus, right in the place where the abdominal cerclage needs to be placed. After sitting in a hospital bed from 9:30am-3:30 pm hooked up to an IV with no food or water for 18 hours, they sent me home because of two emergency high risk C-Sections, to come back for a Shirodkar Cerclage. I'm driving to Abbott Northwestern Hospital and hour and a half away because I was referred to a specialist to work with me. The doctor said my surgery may take a few hours, because he really wanted to perform the abdominal, but we have no choice but to do the shirodkar, and I'm very worried. The tumor could irritate my uterus as the baby grows, causing preterm labor, and the cerclage is not the one that I need, but the only option I have. I'm stuck in between a rock and a hard place. My hands are tied. They can't remove the tumor because it's in my uterus. I tryed to concieve since August of 2001, and lost a baby at 8 weeks last August 2002, that had the same due date as this baby, March 18, 2004... So, it's been a long road for me, and I don't want to loose this baby. It's so healthy and strong, I saw the little stinker stretching on the ultrasound yesterday...
