Ok....I probably should know this already but how old is again? I'm sure you've probably answered that question a million times. Can I use the " I'm new here " excuse?? LOL. I'm asking because I'm kinda into dreams and dream interpretation. Not real good at it by any means but really fascinated and learning a lot. And, just my opinion of course, I think you were right on.....stressing about not being in control. But not being in control of what is my question? You said he is 6 1/2 and that's just incredible to me if he's already tapping into just what his disability is and what it means. If there have been no major changes going on in his life then it seems like that's the only other thing to be " not in control " of. Wow is all I can say. I wish there were a way we could know how he was feeling in the dream when he couldn't stop the car. Yeah, LOL, I know - try getting him to tell you how he was feeling??? hehehehehehhahahahahahaha ... I do understand what I just said and why we're all laughing so hard. Dessiree woke up screaming and didn't want to lay on the bed. I started asking her what happened. I didn't expect an answer really and then she told me " hormiguitas, hormiguitas " (that's little ants in Spanish). Then I asked where? she said " on the bed " me:what are they doing? she: " screaming " and she started screaming like she was on her dreams. I asked: are the little ants big or small? and she said: " big " . I told her it was a dream and she laugh, but she didn't want to lay on the bed so she went back to sleep over my hubby's chest. The next morning she still remembered (and she does until now) and told us laughing " the little ants were a dream " That's the only dream she has talked about. She was 3y3m then. I'd focus on that rather than the stress angle. I have had dreams like this, and I bet most people do. It is pretty normal. Ever have the dream in college when you have signed up for a class and suddenly you realize that the semester is over and you have forgotten to attend a single class? Nothing has changed in his life except that they pulled the aide in school he hated and replaced her with someone he likes. Every other thing is business as usual. Or, I show up for college class but it's the final exam ... how did I miss every class up to that one? How did I forget to study? How did I not know it's the final exam? I haven't had them for a long time now ... but when I was working fulltime and had a deadline I was scrambling to meet, I could be sure I'd have a dream similar to one of those above. Guest guest Posted April 27, 2003 Report Share Posted April 27, 2003 i agree that eric's dream has this sense of loss of control but i wonder if it possibly has more to do with him coming to terms with his growing independence and the responsibility and maturity expected of him in relationship to that increased independent ablity. eric is doing very, very well. he has made remarkable progress in a relatively short period of time resulting in more independence (i.e. phasing an aide down to half time support by grade one - holy shit!). the fear and abandonment and speeding vehicles in the dream could be a delayed reaction or still working out the stressor internally from the incident when he came home from ben's independently. i would certainly class that as a traumatic event M.G.mum to Sebastian, 11 kinda quirky(NT) Rowan, 6 extra quirky (ASD) married to and living in Northern Ontario Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest guest Posted April 27, 2003 Report Share Posted April 27, 2003 had this same dream salli describes for years. it is exam time and as i check my exam schedule i realise i am scheduled to write an exam in a class that i didn't realise i was registered for and have therefore never attended a class, never looked at the book etc. incredibly upsetting even once you are awake and realise it wasn't real. once i finally stopped having that dream, i replaced it with a similarly themed one - i went to the basement and found a skinny, starving dog. i forgot that i had a pet and can't remember for sure if i had ever ever fed it before. i only had this dream 3 or 4 times and i haven't had it for a couple of years now. obviously dreams about keeping up with all of responsibilities and the fear of letting things slide. And because her favorite person in the world is her allergist. plans on having a fishing set in the room for the kids to play with (just like Dr. A), and hand out dum-dums!
