Their post surgical diet is drinking this nasty optifast type drink.

First she says I'm suppposed to mix it with milk (package says H2O).

Mix up 10 oz at a time and drink it over a 5 hour period.

I did question that last suggestion and boy what a response.

" You've obviously got some bad information. The protein is fine for

24 hrs. " and blew me off because I told her I learned this info from

an internet group and not a " dietician " and laughed it off.

Grrr

Don't bother me tho, I'll be sipping on my Proscore 100 (made with

water, of course)

But doesn't it make you wonder how these docs can get by with doling out all

this bad info (either from themselves or their minions, like the dietician)?

I really think it's time we post-ops started agitating for some regulation on

this WLS aftercare bizniz. Just IMAGINE how many of us there are out there

who never joined a support group or signed up on an internet help list? Who

just DON'T KNOW and are probably sabotaging their health even as we sit here

right now? WE are probably in the minority; the majority are probably headed

for all kinds of problems down the road.

Dear Maggie,

It is MAJOR frustrating to deal with the professionals some times -- I

am most strongly tempted and sometimes not very quiet when the information

they are giving can really be harmful to others.

As far as the drink (of course your right about the milk -- even the

package says so!) but depending on the content it may actually have some

type of preservative that could hold on to the content and avoid bacteria

growth for up to 24 hours -- when in question though I always contact the

manufacturer of the stuff and if possible I get them to FAX me the answer.

Manufactures who give you information " in writing " know they are liable for

that information so are far less likely to allude to " selling " you the

product and more prone to give you real information.

The added bonus of course is next time you see the dietitian you can

show them the " Manufacturer said........ " and you have it in writing. Most

products have a 1-800 number or a web address and if your asking the right

questions (ones that can't be evaded...) Such as.... is this <__ drink__>

going to grow harmful bacteria if I leave it mixed up in the fridge for 24

hours? <--- pretty direct question and if they answer wrong, leading to your

getting very sick they put it in writing then... the could get in a lot of

trouble so... I find by doing it that way I get more honest answers from the

people who make this stuff.

>>>Just got home from a very frustrating meeting with my doc's

dietician. Their post surgical diet is drinking this nasty optifast type

***To me, the first " warning " sign is are they selling the product

from the doctors office? Can it be found else where? Is it way more

expensive than a great product like ProScore? How does the label compare?***

op are you??? LOL... I don't even drink pure water over a 5 hour period... I

get fresh water about every hour or two at the most... can't think of

anything I would drink over a 5 hour period of time... just sounds ....

ewwwww (LOL... how's that for a technical term!)

Nuts

Just got home from a very frustrating meeting with my doc's

dietician.

Their post surgical diet is drinking this nasty optifast type drink.

First she says I'm suppposed to mix it with milk (package says H2O).

Mix up 10 oz at a time and drink it over a 5 hour period.

I did question that last suggestion and boy what a response.

Don't bother me tho, I'll be sipping on my Proscore 100 (made with
