I'm in total compliance with this law. I keep my doctor's scale in my

walk-in closet, so in the morning, I go in, close the door, (no mirrors in

there) strip off what I have on, and weigh in the buff...but it is always

before food and after potty. No need to send the scale police to my house!

HI e

I wanted to pipe in about your dr saying its not IC. I usually just lurk here

but I had to chime in. First I am very sorry for your losses. I have been

pregnant three times, 1st was with twin girls which I lost after PROMing at

17wks, then pregnancy two, I lost a son after PROMing at 17wks. After the first

loss, I was told " just a twin thing, it would not happen again " with my second

loss, I went to Houston (I am in Austin TX) to see a Peri at Baylor College of

Medicine. Anyway after consulting with a total of three peri's, my OB (and his

pratice has 5 obs in all) and two RE's everyone of them said I did not have IC

because I did not meet any criteria (DES daughter or any type of cervical

procedures, and I never delivered immediately, and I did have pressure and had

back contractions which the ob blew off all three times) They did however say

b/c they did not know what was going on I could get a cervical cerclage at 12

wks, which I did with my third pregnancy. IN that pregnancy I was followed very

closely and at 18wks I funnelled to my stitch and stayed that way until delivery

when I PROMed at 24wks and my stitch tore in three places (I prom'd this time

due to infection which was suspected to have set in b/c I had been funnelled for

so long). NOW everyone says IC but scratch their heads as to why. I have since

seen another OB who is very familiear with AB cerclage (says has done 10 in

the last 5 years) and he says my only option is the AB cerclage. I know 10 does

not sould like a lot but you know, more times then not, the cervical cerclage

works, we here at abbyloopers are a very small group when you think about it.

The point of all this is.... Please Please don't let your drs tell you that its

not IC. This is something to not rule out especially if you fail a cervical

cerclage. Yes, there may be other things at play, but I am of the opinion that I

will never accept " you just don't fit the norm or you are not textbook or what

we ususally see... " as a basis of diagnosis or should I say mis-diagnosis. I

truly feel I have been screwed by the doctors I have seen and I have three sweet

babies that suffered their incompentance b/c they were too caught up in " NORM "

or " Textbook " . Medicine is indiviual and there are always exceptions to the

rule. Its sad when as patients we have to take the lead role in our care and

constantly challage our drs to think " out side the box " and to keep updated on

the latest reasearch.

Wow that sounded like a soapbox huh? You know the only drs I have found since I

started getting pregnant that don't take a wait and see approach to medicine

which I now love was Trey's neonatologist. Now I know that there are drs that

are not so conservative to a fault.

Anyway, thats my 2cents for what it is worth. I just know the pain of losing

babies and its one that for the rest of my life I will pray other don't have to

know. My NICU ride was a piece of cake compared to the heartache of my losses.

Educate your doctor, Challange him and get 2nd, 3rd and 4th opions if you have

to.
