Guest guest
Again, my apologies for the less-than-perfect tables. Cutting the text and pasting to a new message seems to straighten things out. I don't know why. Our 8 year-old son is neurotypical, but we knew his 7 year-old autistic brother had high copper levels. Our 8 year-old is bright but has always been a concern for his teachers because they feel he is underachieving and maybe lazy. He has difficulty with attention, and it takes hours to do even simple homework. He used to be good at spelling, but his ability to even copy a list of words has deteriorated. In third grade, his graphomotor skills are at a level about at the end of kindergarten. He hates to write, and has a very difficult time getting his ideas from his brain to his paper. We decided to take him to Pfeiffer last January. At that time, his blood lead levels were 9 ug/dl (ref range 0-9). Great Smokies hair testing showed hair aluminum, antimony, lead, nickel, and uranium to be in the high range (aluminum, antimony, and uranium were extremely high). Interestingly, mercury was <.25, but as you can see below, his hair mercury is now measurable. Symptom-wise, has a lot of headaches. His attention is poor. Social skills are poor even though he is a fun-loving kid. He had friends in kindergarten, but has lost most of his friends over the past two years. It took us a long time to realize something was wrong because we attributed a lot of his problems to the intensity of having an autistic brother. He scores high on most subtests of the Woodcock Achievement test, and his teacher wonders if he is possibly gifted. SOMETHING is going on biologically, though, because we had him tested by the school OT who said that his vestibular system functioning makes her wonder how he can walk across a room (strange because he is coordinated and very good at baseball and basketball). Our 8 year-old is not as sensitive to supplements as our autistic son, so we did not have to start things as slowly with supplements. We began supplementation last January. Progress has been very slow, although his serum lead levels are down to 2 ug/dl (ref range 0-9). At the August Pfeiffer outreach, even the nurse wondered if there had been any benefit at all, and we all wondered what we are missing. He seems depressed. It is alarming to us that his graphomotor skills seem to be actually be deteriorating. At this point, we are wondering if we should embark upon more traditional chelation. We have our Pfeiffer outreach appointment on February 9 (we leave Feb 8) Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Supplement schedule: Breakfast: 500 mg.
